Help facilitate inclusive education for students who are deaf or hard of hearing by providing sign language interpretation in a supportive middle school classroom. This contract opportunity runs from now until late May 2027, with a full-time, school-day schedule (approximately 37.5 hours per week). Youll work primarily with two middle school students in a multi-categorical setting, ensuring access to the curriculum and classroom communication through skilled interpretation. One of the students is on the autism spectrum and occasionally displays behavioral challenges, but a dedicated team member manages their behavioral planyour primary duty will be interpretation and support.
What youll bring:
EIPA assessment score of 3.5 or higher (required by state regulations) High school diploma or equivalent, at minimum Successful completion of the written EIPA test Ability to pass a background screening and agree to the SLI Code of Ethics during onboarding Experience in educational or pediatric settings is helpful Willingness to follow two students through their day, adapting to a variety of classroom activities Comfort working alongside students with diverse needs; if you wish, additional CPI or behavioral training can be arranged through the district Your responsibilities: Convey spoken information into sign language and vice versa in academic and social settings Foster understanding and connection between students, teachers, and peers in the classroom Maintain confidentiality and uphold ethical standards in all interactions Accompany students to various mainstream and special classes as assigned Participate in ongoing communication with the SLI lead or educational team to ensure student success Become a valued communication bridge in this dynamic learning environment, supporting student engagement and quality education.
