Job Description

Exciting opportunity for a skilled Sign Language Interpreter available on a contract basis, supporting middle school students in a collaborative classroom environment through the 2026-2027 school year. You'll play a key role in making classroom content accessible for two students with diverse needs, working full-time hours throughout the academic year.
Key Qualifications:
EIPA score of 3.5 or higher (as required by South Carolina regulations) Successful completion of the EIPA written evaluation Minimum of a high school diploma Ability to pass a background check Willingness to sign the SLI Code of Ethics during onboarding
Preferred Experience:
Previous experience interpreting for middle or high school students Familiarity with multi-categorical special education environments Comfort collaborating with teams including specialists and behavioral staff Behavioral or CPI training is not required, but candidates may request it for added confidence
Role Responsibilities:
Interpret classroom instruction and activities for two assigned students, both seated closely and attending most classes together Provide consistent, clear communication access across a variety of subjects and mainstream classes During one class block, accompany the student with a behavioral plan (all behavioral management handled by designated staff; interpreter's sole responsibility is communication facilitation) Participate in planning with the SLI Lead to ensure accommodations meet each student's needs Adhere to professional standards, maintaining confidentiality and ethical guidelines at all times This placement runs from start date through late May, 2027, offering opportunities to make a profound difference in students' access to learning.
