9681420-29687 Job Description Step into a rewarding opportunity providing sign language interpretation in a dynamic middle school environment. This contract assignment is full-time (37.5 hours weekly), extending through May 27th, 2027. You will support two middle school students within a multi-categorical classroom, delivering consistent and accurate American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation throughout their school day. The students, who are seated near one another, require simultaneous interpreting, and youll remain focused on communication access rather than behavioral management. During one particular class block, youll accompany the student with additional support needs, but behavioral oversight is managed by another professional.
Ideal candidates should possess:
An EIPA score of 3.5 or higher (required by South Carolina state guidelines) Successful completion of the EIPA Written Test At least a high school diploma or equivalent A passing background check and commitment to the SLI Code of Ethics (signable during onboarding) Experience working with students on the autism spectrum is a plus, but not mandatory Comfort in supporting students in a special education setting Willingness to obtain CPI or behavioral training if desired (optional and available through the district) In this role, you will: Facilitate classroom communication through ASL for both students across their shared schedule Adjust interpreting practices to ensure accessibility for students with diverse communication needs Collaborate with classroom staff, special educators, and SLI leads Provide consistent support while maintaining professional boundaries with regard to student behavior management If you are committed to making educational access possible for students through the power of sign language and meet all outlined state requirements, this is the position for you.
