This contract opportunity offers a full-time commitment (37.5 hours per week) in a well-respected school, providing the opportunity to work closely with a dynamic team of educators and specialists. As a certified interpreter for the Deaf, your efforts will be instrumental in enhancing communication access and fostering inclusion within the classroom.
Qualifications and Certifications:
Valid Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) or Texas Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing certification: BEI I or II (previous system) or Basic (current system) Proficiency in American Sign Language and English Experience interpreting in educational settings, preferably with students ranging from PK to grade 8 Ability to navigate the unique needs of young children and school-aged students District-specific fingerprinting and background check clearance required Prescreen interviews may be conducted as part of the placement process
What You'll Do:
Provide one-on-one and group interpretation for students who are Deaf or hard of hearing, ensuring equitable access to classroom instruction and school activities Collaborate closely with teachers, staff, and other support professionals to promote communication and student engagement Prepare for assignments by reviewing relevant educational materials and adapting interpreting strategies as needed Maintain adherence to ethical standards of interpreting and confidentiality Participate in IEP meetings and other team conferences when required This position is ideal for interpreters who desire to make a meaningful difference in a supportive, on-site academic setting.
