Job Description

Step into a fulfilling role supporting students through expert sign language interpreting in an educational environment near the Virginia Beach area. This full-time, contract opportunity runs from late August 2026 through mid-June 2027, offering the chance to work closely with elementary-aged learners on a 1:1 basis. Youll collaborate across locations, adapting to the needs of assigned students while making a direct, positive impact in school settings. Ideal candidates will bring strong language skills and the flexibility to rotate between campuses as needed. Your role will involve supporting communication for students, ensuring access to educational content and meaningful interaction with their peers and instructors.
Desired Qualifications:
Virginia Quality Assurance Screening (VQAS) Level III certification required EIPA score of 3.5 preferred (district will interview those with a score above 3.0 or QAS Score of 3+) Proficiency in American Sign Language and a commitment to best practices in educational interpreting Familiarity with Visaphonics preferred, but not mandatory Experience working with elementary-age students in school settings a plus Reliable, adaptable, and empathetic communication style
Primary Responsibilities:
Serve as a dedicated 1:1 interpreter for students, facilitating communication throughout the school day Support student comprehension and participation in classroom activities and social interactions Rotate across campuses as required to cover student absences or changes in assignment Maintain professional standards of confidentiality and ethical behavior Collaborate with teachers, staff, and families to promote optimal student engagement This position offers a Monday through Friday schedule with 35 hours per week during the academic year, providing excellent work-life balance in a vibrant school community.
