Desired Qualifications:
Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with certifications as required by state standards Experience working with pediatric populations, preferably within an educational or school setting Comfortable providing 1:1 support for students in grades Pre-K, Kindergarten, elementary, and middle school Ability to collaborate with teachers, parents, and related service providers Compassion, patience, and adaptability to meet the unique needs of each child Flexibility to support children in both academic and social situations throughout the school day
Key Responsibilities:
Interpret classroom lessons, discussions, and school activities to foster student understanding and participation Serve as a linguistic and cultural bridge between deaf/hard of hearing students and hearing individuals Assist educators in adapting materials and assignments to enhance accessibility Engage with students during academic, extracurricular, and social activities to encourage meaningful interactions Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional ethical standards Monitor and document student progress, communicating with the educational team as needed This is a contract position in a supportive and collaborative educational environment located near Suffolk, VA.
