Job Description

Category Schools - Interpreter Job Type Contract To Hire Step into a meaningful role supporting middle school and Community Transitions students as a sign language interpreter in an engaging educational setting near Bellingham, WA. This contract-to-hire opportunity offers a unique blend of working both within school classrooms and in community-based environments. The assignment begins September 31, 2026, and runs through June 11, 2027, with weekly hours to be determined but anticipated to be less than full-time.
Key Qualifications:
Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and experience as a sign language interpreter, preferably in a school setting Familiarity with working alongside middle school-aged students and young adults in Community Transitions programs Strong interpersonal and communication skills to support both academic and social-emotional needs Flexibility to serve in various classroom environments and adapt to evolving student support requirements Professional credentials as required by Washington State or willingness to obtain them prior to the start
Primary Responsibilities:
Deliver clear, effective ASL interpretation for one primary student across academic content and social interactions Partner with educational staff to provide student support, fostering both learning and well-being Engage with students both within traditional middle school classrooms and in community-based settings as needed Facilitate successful transitions, access to instructional materials, and active participation in daily school life Contribute to positive student outcomes by adapting approaches to meet individual communication and support needs This is an exciting opportunity to make a significant impact on a student's academic journey and social development.
