An Interpreter or Translator uses language and communication skills to convert words and concepts from one spoken language to another, or from spoken language to sign language. Works with written information and texts to create translations that are accurate and capture the style and nuance of the original text.
We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Sign Language Interpreter to facilitate effective communication between Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and hearing individuals. The ideal candidate will provide accurate, professional interpretation services in a variety of settings while maintaining confidentiality, impartiality, and adherence to professional standards. Key Responsibilities Provide American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation services for clients, employees, students, patients, or community members as needed. Interpret spoken language into ASL and ASL into spoken English accurately and effectively. Facilitate communication in meetings, appointments, training sessions, educational environments, and community events. Maintain strict confidentiality and compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Prepare for assignments by reviewing relevant materials and terminology. Collaborate with clients and stakeholders to ensure effective communication access. Maintain professional conduct and adherence to RID Code of Professional Conduct. Complete documentation and reports as required. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred. Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and spoken English. Demonstrated experience providing interpretation services. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to remain neutral, professional, and culturally sensitive in all interactions. Reliable transportation and ability to travel locally if required. Preferred Qualifications 4.0 EIPA Score Written Test Results; Pass Washington State Interpreter credentials, where applicable. Experience in educational, healthcare, government, or community settings. Knowledge of Deaf culture and accessibility best practices. Skills & Competencies Excellent receptive and expressive ASL skills. Attention to detail and accuracy. Strong time management and organizational skills.
