Job Description
Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract Make a meaningful difference by supporting students' communication and success in an educational setting. A full-time Sign Language Interpreter is needed to provide dedicated support to a middle school student, bridging communication and fostering inclusion. This contract position is ideally suited for an individual who is passionate about working with children and skilled in American Sign Language within a school environment.
Key Qualifications:
- Valid certification as a Sign Language Interpreter (RID, EIPA, or equivalent)
- Comprehensive fluency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Experience supporting students in educational or youth-oriented settings
- Ability to effectively interpret spoken word, instructions, and classroom dialogue
- Professionalism, reliability, and excellent interpersonal skills
- Adaptability to respond flexibly to student and classroom needs
- Commitment to confidentiality, respect, and fostering a positive learning environment
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide one-on-one ASL interpretation for a middle school student throughout the school day
- Facilitate clear communication between the student, peers, and school staff
- Support understanding of instructional materials and classroom interactions
- Adapt interpretation methods as needed across subjects and activities
- Collaborate with educators and specialists to ensure a seamless educational experience
- Uphold ethical standards and demonstrate cultural sensitivity
- Maintain accurate records as required
