Summer Camp Visual Storyteller - Photography Join us in our mission to provide life-changing experiences that enhance independence and self-esteem for children and adults with disabilities! About the Role As a Visual Storyteller - Photography, you'll capture the vibrant, authentic moments that make True Friends special. Through candid and posed photography, you'll help tell the stories of campers, staff, programs, and the camp experience through images used across marketing, communications, social media, and promotional materials. This is a creative, hands-on role for someone with a strong eye for composition who enjoys working with people and capturing meaningful moments in active, outdoor environments. •Primary Location Camp Courage | Maple Lake, MN Camp Eden Wood | Eden Prairie, MN Travel between locations may be required based on photography and program needs. You don't have to live near a True Friends site to apply! Our camp staff positions offer on-site housing and meals during employment, making this a great opportunity for individuals who live outside the immediate area, including those from other states! What You'll Do Your responsibilities may include: Identify opportunities to capture compelling photographs of campers, staff, activities, events, and camp settings Capture both candid and posed photography for marketing, publications, social media, websites, and communications Photograph weekly cabin activities, special events, and program highlights Work with summer camp staff to coordinate photography opportunities while minimizing disruption to programs Edit, label, organize, and catalog photographs for use across digital and print platforms Collaborate with Marketing and other departments to fulfill photography and visual content needs Contribute creative ideas for visual storytelling and seasonal campaigns Capture images that authentically represent the experiences and abilities of the individuals True Friends serves Support special projects Perform other duties as assigned Why You'll Love It Tell meaningful stories: Use photography to capture the people, experiences, and impact of True Friends Build your portfolio: Create a diverse collection of work across marketing, social media, digital, and print Be where the action is: Photograph campers participating in activities, enjoying camp, and building confidence Grow your skills: Gain experience in nonprofit communications, visual storytelling, and content creation Work creatively: Bring your own perspective and ideas to seasonal campaigns and storytelling Make an impact: Help showcase the abilities, experiences, and accomplishments of individuals with disabilities What You'll Gain Hands-on experience in photography, visual storytelling, and nonprofit communications A professional portfolio showcasing your work in digital, social, web, and print formats Experience working with a Marketing team and supporting organizational campaigns Exposure to nonprofit marketing, communications, and media strategy Opportunities to develop your photography, editing, storytelling, and creative skills The opportunity to create work that highlights the experiences and abilities of individuals with disabilities Schedule Full-time seasonal position, typically early June through mid-August Schedule will vary based on camp programming, photography opportunities, and organizational needs May include weekdays, evenings, and weekends Travel between True Friends camp locations may be required Specific schedules and time commitments will be discussed during the hiring process What You'll Bring to the Table Pursuing or holding a degree in Photography, Visual Arts, Communications, or a related field preferred At least one year of photography and photo-editing experience; professional, educational, freelance, or personal portfolio experience may be considered Experience with outdoor, action, or event photography Ability to work effectively in bright sunlight and changing outdoor conditions Proficiency with photo-editing software; Adobe Lightroom experience is highly valued Strong eye for composition, lighting, and visual storytelling Ability to manage your own schedule, meet deadlines, and respond to direction and feedback Strong organizational skills and attention to detail Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with a team Initiative, adaptability, and a strong work ethic Passion for making a difference in the lives of others Comfortable working in an active, communal camp environment Ability to pass the required organizational background study A portfolio or examples of previous photography work are highly valued. Work Environment & Physical Requirements This is an active position that involves working across camp locations and program areas.
Staff should be prepared to:
Work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions, including sun, heat, and rain Spend extended periods standing and walking while photographing activities Bend, reach, kneel, crouch, and navigate uneven terrain Move quickly and safely through active program areas to capture spontaneous moments Lift, carry, and transport cameras, lenses, computers, tripods, and other photography equipment Maintain focus and attention to detail while working on your feet for extended periods Use computers, cameras, editing software, and other technology throughout the workday Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing Work around campers, staff, volunteers, and individuals with a range of abilities and needs Specific physical demands and environmental conditions may vary based on program and assignment. Compensation Visual Storytellers - Photography are paid an hourly wage: $15.57 per hour Returning staff may be eligible for higher wages and bonuses
