Position Summary The Tampa Bay Times is hiring a Trending News Producer focused on business and sports who will join a new high-metabolism digital-first Bay Now team working to produce multiple breakouts, explainers, aggregations each day that boil down interesting news developments. Trending News Producers work quickly and nimbly to make sense of bigger stories or hone in on high-interest topics and trends that speak to our readers. They will put in context various rankings and lists - and Tampa Bay and Florida's place in it. The work should be fast, sharp and fun when appropriate. A fair number of posts will be aggregations and listicles, providing nuggets of news and information. Though their focus will be on business and sports topics, they may occasionally write trending posts on other subjects. This role will also entail some podcast production. Filming, video editing, and audio recording/editing skills are required for this role accordingly in addition to sharp news judgment and demonstrated ability to write with speed and attention to detail. This role will report in to the Assistant Managing Editor, Digital Engagement and be located in our St. Petersburg, FL office. Key Responsibilities Write two articles a day five days a week on primarily sports or business topics, but other topics as required. Be constantly searching for news to cover and find engaging, locally-centered ways angles on stories. Get on publicists' email blast lists to find news to aggregate. Receive assignments from across the newsroom. Track the traffic on your stories to assess performance and then brainstorm follow-ups.

Produce, record, film, and edit podcasts of at least 15 minutes in length or more up to several times per week. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, English, or related field. Relevant experience writing for a journalistic outlet, including a student newspaper. A combination of speed and attention to detail. A constant hunger to find new stories and generate traffic.

A demonstrated track record of producing, recording, filming, and editing podcasts of at least 15 minutes.
