RFD News is seeking a Multi-Platform Producer to join our newsroom and help produce a fast-moving daily news service focused on agriculture, rural America and the issues that matter to the people who live and work there. This is a newsroom-based, high-volume, multi-platform journalism role, not a traditional field-reporting position. The Multi-Platform Producer will identify and pitch stories, research and write approved stories, edit and prepare content for multiple platforms, and remain responsible for those stories as they develop throughout the shift. The successful candidate will have strong news judgment, excellent writing skills and the ability to move quickly among multiple stories and formats. The expectation is to produce multiple stories each day while maintaining accuracy, clarity and strong editorial standards. The Multiplatform Producer reports to a Senior Producer. What You'll Do Identify and pitch story ideas to the Senior Producer for approval. No story moves into production without Senior Producer approval. Produce stories assigned directly by the Senior Producer as newsroom priorities require. Source stories and developments using government and industry sources, social media, partner organizations, original reporting and other credible sources. Monitor agriculture, commodities, government and public policy, weather, business and other subjects affecting rural America. Once a story is approved or assigned, own it throughout the shift by researching, writing, editing and preparing it for distribution across RFD News platforms. Write and produce multiple stories during each shift, working quickly while maintaining accuracy, proper sourcing and journalistic standards. Adapt stories for distribution across linear television, streaming, social media, YouTube and RFD digital properties. Write scripts, headlines, social copy, video descriptions and other supporting editorial material. Publish directly to RFD News social platforms, using appropriate headlines, video, imagery, captions and platform-specific presentation. Prepare stories and supporting editorial material for the web team to publish on RFD digital properties. Find and incorporate video, graphics, documents, social posts and other source material that strengthen storytelling. Continuously monitor owned stories after initial publication or air for meaningful developments. When a story appreciably advances during the shift, update the reporting and ensure relevant versions are revised or republished across applicable platforms. Keep the Senior Producer informed of significant developments that could change a story's priority, treatment or distribution. Work with producers, anchors, editors and others to determine how approved stories should be presented across the RFD News ecosystem. Record voice-over narration for stories and other news elements when appropriate. Appear on camera from the newsroom or studio when a story or format calls for it. On-camera work is an option only when needed. Maintain accuracy, proper attribution, editorial consistency and RFD News standards while operating on tight deadlines. What We're Looking For Strong journalistic instincts and the ability to quickly recognize what is newsworthy. Excellent writing, rewriting and copy-editing skills. Experience producing news or editorial content on deadline. Ability to identify and pitch strong story ideas and clearly articulate why they matter to the audience. Ability to take a complicated subject and turn it into clear, concise and accessible journalism. Comfort working in a high-output newsroom where several stories may be moving simultaneously. Strong familiarity with social media as both a newsgathering and publishing platform. Understanding of how storytelling differs across television/streaming, YouTube, social media and digital platforms. Ability to independently research, verify and properly attribute information from multiple sources. Working knowledge of video editing and digital newsroom production tools. Ability to record professional-quality voice-over narration; comfort appearing on camera is preferred. Highly organized, resourceful and able to shift priorities quickly when news breaks. Strong sense of story ownership, including responsibility for monitoring and updating stories after initial publication. Collaborative mindset and the ability to work closely with a Senior Producer, anchors and other members of a multimedia newsroom. Interest in agriculture, rural America, commodities, government, business or related subjects is strongly preferred. Direct agricultural journalism experience is valuable but not required. This is a newsroom-based position and requires shift work.
