Independent Contractor The Company Resolve Philly, founded in 2018, is a news organization reporting with and for people living in Philadelphia neighborhoods. It's a model for the future designed for community impact and sustainability. We are committed to deep community engagement, understanding information needs, and maximizing access to news and information. The Role (Overview) The successful contractor will report on Philadelphia's Germantown neighborhood and will have deep familiarity with the neighborhood, along with a commitment to covering community issues in Philadelphia. The contractor will receive a weekly assignment from the Director of Community News & Engagement and will produce one reported story ranging from 600 to 1,000 words each week. This role is classified as an independent contractor position. The individual engaged in this role is not considered an employee of the company and will perform services on a contractual basis. As an independent contractor, the individual is responsible for managing their own taxes, insurance, and business expenses, and is not eligible for employee benefits, including but not limited to health insurance, paid time off, or retirement programs. The contractor maintains discretion and control over the manner and means by which the services are performed, subject to the terms outlined in the agreement. Who You Are (Qualifications, Experience, Core Competencies & Skills) You have at least three years of professional reporting experience and can provide samples of your published journalistic work. You are aware of local issues affecting Philadelphia neighborhoods, and Germantown in particular. You can produce work in two or more journalistic formats and styles (audio, video, photography, etc.). You have a passion for local news that is community-centered and solutions-oriented, with strong awareness of solutions journalism and engaged journalism strategies. You have knowledge of and/or experience in community engagement in journalism. You are highly organized and pay attention to detail. You consistently produce clean copy on deadline and work collaboratively with editors. What You'll Do Reporting Stories Produce one story a week for the Germantown Info Hub as assigned by the Director of Community News and Engagement. Attend meetings and conduct interviews as needed to thoroughly report the story, including occasional GIH community engagements and tabling events, as a core pillar of our reporting is ensuring it is community-engaged. Engage in the editing process to prepare each story for publication. Ensure each story includes images, captions, and social media assets as requested by the Director of Community News and Engagement. Who You Will Collaborate With (Key Relationships)
