Job Description

Job Summary We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Project Based Scene Shop Technician to join our creative production team. In this role, you will be responsible for constructing, painting, and installing scenic elements for theatrical, film, or event productions. Your expertise in set construction, scenic painting, and fabrication will help bring visionary designs to life on stage and in studio environments. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work on diverse projects, collaborate with talented designers and stage managers, and contribute to memorable productions that captivate audiences. Responsibilities Interpret blueprints, sketches, and technical drawings to accurately build scenic elements according to design specifications Operate hand tools, power tools, and heavy machinery safely to cut, shape, assemble, and install set components Fabricate performance props and scenic pieces using carpentry, woodworking, metalworking, and scenic painting techniques Apply paint finishes using brushes, rollers, spray equipment, and techniques such as scenic painting and color theory to achieve desired visual effects Follow safe work practices at all times while handling materials like wood, metal, fabric, and foam core Assist with stage rigging and set installation to ensure stability and safety during performances Read and interpret blueprints and CAD (Computer-Aided Design) software files such as AutoCAD or SketchUp for precise construction Collaborate with designers on art direction choices related to set aesthetics and lighting design considerations Maintain a clean workspace by organizing tools and materials efficiently throughout the project lifecycle Requirements Proven experience in scenic construction, set fabrication or related theater production roles Proficiency with CAD software such as AutoCAD or SketchUp for designing or interpreting blueprints Skilled in the use of hand tools, power tools (e.g., saws, drills), ladders, and rigging equipment with a strong focus on safety practices Knowledge of scenic painting techniques including color theory and finishing methods like construction painting or stage painting Ability to perform manual handling tasks involving heavy lifting of materials up to specified weight limits Experience with carpentry, woodworking, metalworking or fabricating performance props is highly desirable Familiarity with interior design principles or lighting design can be an asset for collaborative projects Excellent blueprint reading skills coupled with a keen eye for detail in following technical specifications Strong communication skills to work effectively within a team environment across multiple projects Join us if you're eager to contribute your craftsmanship to inspiring productions!
