Alchemy Sound Studios is a Tallahassee based recording studio that operated successfully for 11 years in a modest one room building from 2009 until 2020. The studio was closed for 4 years while relocating and upgrading, and has now opened back up again in a 2,000 sq ft multi-room facility. Now that we have expanded the physical structure and equipment, we are looking to expand the staff with a part time position for a freelance contracted recording engineer. As the Studio grows and expands, we hope that this could possibly become a full-time position. We would highly prefer to find someone with at least a few years of experience recording bands on their own, however we are accepting applications from current or former students with a degree in the field who may not have the "real world training" under their belt yet. While there is a time and place for using samples and triggers, Alchemy Sound Studios specializes in the capture of live audio. We would be looking for someone who has experience and knowledge with microphone placement and other techniques on live acoustic instruments such as drum kits, guitars, pianos, mandolins, cellos, violins, as well as guitar and bass cabinets. Over the next few months, Alchemy Sound Studios will be financing new promotion and advertising campaigns now that we have finally re-opened after 4 years off. That being said, the freelance engineer position would, for the most part, be responsible for bringing in their own business. This would most likely entail attending music based events to meet and network with bands and artists on the local scene. The average hourly income for this position is completely dependent on the hourly rate paid by the artist for different types of sessions booked. More information on this can be found on our "rates page" on the website. However, an average estimation would come out between $22 - $35 per hour.
