Technical Writer Job Description This role focuses on designing and implementing a robust documentation framework that brings structure, standards, and version control to technical and operational materials for complex software systems and enterprise platforms. The Technical Writer will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure all documentation accurately reflects current system functionality, supports compliance needs, and remains clear, accessible, and easy to maintain over time. Responsibilities Design and implement a documentation framework that introduces consistent structure, standards, and version control across technical and operational materials. Create, organize, and maintain system documentation, process narratives, and reference materials that accurately reflect current system functionality and configuration. Partner with Engineering, QA, and Program Management teams to ensure documentation accurately represents implemented features, integrations, and overall system behavior. Support compliance activities by maintaining accurate, traceable documentation that demonstrates system controls, processes, and validation evidence. Establish and manage documentation repositories to improve accessibility, discoverability, and consistency across the organization. Define and manage documentation update and review cycles to ensure content remains current as systems and processes evolve. Promote documentation best practices across teams to improve clarity, usability, and long-term maintainability of technical content. Apply document control principles to ensure consistent versioning, approval workflows, and publishing standards for all documentation. Essential Skills Bachelor's degree in Technical Communication, Information Systems, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience. 5+ years of experience developing and maintaining documentation for complex software systems or enterprise platforms. Strong technical acumen with the ability to understand software architecture, integrations, and system dependencies. Demonstrated experience in technical writing for system documentation, process narratives, and operational materials. Exceptional attention to detail with a proven track record of creating clear, structured, and reusable content. Proficiency with documentation and collaboration tools such as Confluence and SharePoint. Proficiency with Markdown for creating and maintaining technical documentation. Experience with document control practices, including managing versions and maintaining consistent documentation standards. Excellent writing, editing, and organizational skills with a focus on accuracy and alignment with program standards. Ability to work effectively with cross-functional technical teams and translate complex concepts into clear, user-friendly documentation. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience developing or managing documentation that supports compliance or certification efforts. Knowledge of document lifecycle management, including creation, review, approval, version control, and publishing standards. Experience creating visual documentation such as diagrams and process maps to support technical clarity and understanding. Background in maturing documentation practices or introducing documentation frameworks across distributed technical teams. Familiarity with standard operating procedures (SOPs) and data-focused documentation. Eligibility for government clearance as a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident. Work Environment The role operates in a hybrid work environment with core collaboration hours aligned to U.S. Eastern Time, offering flexibility to work remotely while supporting team interactions and project needs. Occasional travel may be required for on-site planning sessions, reviews, or collaborative workshops. Remote work arrangements are acceptable when aligned with business and project requirements. The position involves regular use of documentation and collaboration tools such as Confluence, SharePoint, and Markdown-based editors, within a structured environment that emphasizes document control, version management, and adherence to program standards. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Morrisville, NC. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $68.50/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
