Our Engineering team designs, deploys and maintains systems, with innovative and next-generation workflows, for episodic and theatrical projects shot on virtually every camera technology, from 65mm film to the newest file-based 8K systems. Our production and artist teams facilitate the highest quality picture and audio finishing to support the creative vision. FotoKem's lab and our 60+ years of expertise handling and developing film provides a unique set of creative tools that allows filmmakers to blend the benefits of digital with the timeless beauty of analog 16mm, 35mm, and 65/70mm film, such as our popular SHIFT analog intermediate process. From negative and intermediate prints to film dailies and more, and all featuring FotoKem's unrivaled color science. Latest projects include Project Hail Mary, One Battle After Another, Sinners, and The Odyssey. The Role The film processing department is responsible for developing color and B&W film. We develop 16mm, 35mm, 65mm, and 70mm film formats. We work with camera original negative, lab intermediate films, digital intermediate films, sound track, and archival separations. Our film processing technicians play a vital role in our lab operations. If you have a love for handling film and an appreciation for the craft of film processing this may be the opportunity for you. Primary Responsibilities Working in a darkroom to process film and carry out other associated tasks such as checking for film damage prior to processing. Work in the darkroom to build unexposed lab rolls with individual camera rolls. Making changes in the dark while the processing machine is running. When working the light side, making sure all the chemicals temperatures are correct and the film is drying correctly. Working with a team to ensure the processing machines are running smoothly. On the light side, watch the dry box and take up to ensure quality. Experience and skills Film handling experience. Film processing experience and an understanding of analog services is preferred. Prior film lab experience is ideal. General knowledge of photochemical procedures and workflow. Ability to work in total darkness. Neat penmanship. Able to work flexible hours such as graveyard shift and overtime as necessary. A high attention to detail with a focus on quality control standards and being able to follow procedures. Self-starter able to work with little supervision. High degree of professionalism Work Environment & Activities Onsite at Fotokem's main campus in Burbank. Able to lift up to 25 pounds. Must also have the physical ability to bend, grasp, reach, walk, lift, climb, stand and stoop. Must be able to work the graveyard shift, generally 9:00 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. In compliance with local law, we are disclosing the expected compensation, or a range thereof, for roles in locations where legally required. $19- $40 per hour.
