Contract to FTE (role originally opened as FTE) Role OverviewWe are seeking a Sr. Lead AI Content Strategist to define and implement the voice and tone for our AI-powered products. This role requires auditing existing content, developing a comprehensive style guide, and writing content across the product. The ideal candidate will partner with cross-functional teams to ensure content quality and consistency as the product scales. What will you do?
Audit and inventory the product's existing content: UI copy, conversation scripts, error messages, onboarding flows, FAQ content, and AI-generated outputs. Map what exists, identify inconsistencies, and use this as the foundation for the voice and tone standard and basis of a short term backlog to improve consistency throughout the current experience.
Develop a comprehensive content style guide: voice, tone, vocabulary, grammar and syntax conventions, with documented examples specific to the product and the various user personas. You will also get technology and business leadership and the broader product and engineering teams aligned and bought into the standard.
Define a precise voice specification to operationalize in the AI system: translate voice and tone principles into concrete rules and examples the ML team can use to shape model output. Evaluate AI-generated content against those standards and iterate with the team to close the gap.
Write and own content across the product day-to-day: UI labels and microcopy, conversational flows and chat scripts, in-product guidance, notifications, error states, onboarding conversations, in-product marketing, and purchase flow content.
Establish and maintain content governance: define the review and approval process for new content, track content debt, and ensure standards are applied consistently as the product scales.
Partner cross-functionally with UX design, product, engineering, ML, and UXR teams. Collaborate with marketing and GTM partners when the product voice extends into external-facing domains (open web, campaigns, and so on).Are you the right fit?
Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience required.10+ years of content writing experience across disciplines: UX writing, copywriting, technical writing, and narrative writing. You have range and a portfolio that proves it.
You have successfully, productively integrated Gen
AI / LLM
tooling into your professional workflows and are on top of the latest developments in the space.
You have direct experience defining or significantly contributing to a product voice and tone standard, not just following one. You know how to drive adoption of content standards among a team, and have the scars to prove it.
You have written for conversational or AI-powered products: chat interfaces, virtual assistants, LLM-generated flows, or similar. You understand the content design challenges that are unique to these kinds of features/products.
You can translate voice principles into concrete, actionable writing rules and examples.
You have experience partnering with ML or engineering teams on AI output quality: reviewing model-generated content, giving structured feedback, contributing to prompt-level content specifications.
You are a strong communicator and a persistent advocate for content quality.
You thrive in ambiguous, early-stage environments. You are comfortable building from scratch, without a playbook, in a team that is still figuring things out.
Bonus for experience writing sales, marketing, or purchase-flow content.
Bonus for experience in regulated domains: payroll, tax, HR, fintech, healthcare, where accuracy, compliance language, and user trust are table stakes.
