Position Summary:

The DNR Intern is responsible for assisting with the implementation of all aspects of assigned projects within the Pueblo of Santa Ana Department of Natural Resources (SADNR). This includes projects under the following

Divisions:

Range and Wildlife, Restoration, Conservation, Water Resources, Environmental and GIS/Information Technology. This list of duties and responsibilities is illustrative only of the tasks performed by this position and in not all-inclusive.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

• Builds and maintains knowledge by conducting library and/or internes research, attend trainings, workshops, meetings, and conferences.
• Document all activities in a daily logbook and/or field book.
• Assists with education and outreach to the Pueblo of Santa Ana community.
• Provides support to Department of Natural Resource staff as needed.
• Operates and maintains project-related equipment.
• Works with Tribal Administration, SADNR staff, consultants and interdisciplinary teams from outside and agencies as needed.
• Prepare final report/presentation to SADNR staff or upper management.
• Performs other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

Must be a Santa Ana Pueblo tribal enrolled member in High School, Trade School, College and/or University. This position requires minimal experience. Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screen, background, and fingerprint investigation; may include a Motor Vehicle check. Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Identification (Driver's License or NM Id) and be insurable under the Pueblo's insurance.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Certifications:

• Basis computer knowledge in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, etc., plus Internes and email.
• Ability to follow instructions and pay attention to detail.
• Ability to work effectively both in a team environment and/or alone without supervision.
• Ability to interact and maintain good working relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds.
• Ability to communicate efficiently and effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the Intern is frequently required to walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms, climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, and talk and hear. The intern must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds

Work Environment:

Work is generally performed in both office and outdoor settings, with moderate noise levels. Frequent work in the field is required where exposure to natural weather conditions and various dusts may occur while performing outdoor duties. Standing and walking may be on uneven surfaces or unstable ground. Exposure to biting insects, snakes, and other potential disturbing and dangerous wildlife may occur. Situations where safety-toe shoes, safety goggles, gloves or protective face shields are needed may vary.
