DSHS BHHA SCC
- Adult Training Specialist 2 Join our team as an Adult Training Specialist 2 at the Special Commitment Center (SCC) on McNeil Island, where you will play a key role in supporting resident rehabilitation through structured vocational programming. In this position, you will collaborate with clinical leadership and multidisciplinary treatment teams to develop job opportunities, provide skills training, and coach residents in building meaningful work habits. You will also oversee job placements, monitor performance, and ensure accurate tracking of participation and incentive pay. Your work directly contributes to creating a structured, therapeutic environment that promotes accountability, skill development, and long-term success for residents.Please note:
this role requires the ability to travel by ferry as a routine part of reporting to work. About the Special Commitment Center The Special Commitment Center (SCC) provides mental health treatment for individuals civilly committed as sexually violent predators after their prison sentences. Located on McNeil Island, SCC offers a secure environment with a structured treatment program aimed at reducing the risk of re-offense. The center collaborates with legal, correctional, and behavioral health partners to support resident progress and ensure court-ordered reviews. SCC staff play a crucial role in balancing public safety with the treatment and legal rights of residents. Some of what you'll do in this role: Coordinate vocational programming by developing individualized job assignments, schedules, and accommodations in collaboration with the treatment team and clinical leadership. Create, revise, and maintain resident job descriptions and identify vocational opportunities aligned with resident skills, interests, and treatment goals. Facilitate the application and placement process, including coordinating clinical assessments, scheduling job readiness activities, and conducting mock interviews. Provide ongoing coaching and training through one-on-one and group sessions to build job skills, workplace readiness, and required certifications. Monitor and evaluate resident job performance through regular worksite observations, feedback to stakeholders, and participation in treatment team discussions. Manage timekeeping processes, including maintaining timesheets, ensuring accuracy and timely submission, and tracking resident participation and pay. Maintain program documentation and reports, attend clinical meetings, and collaborate with staff across disciplines to support resident progress and program effectiveness. Desired skills, knowledge, and abilities: Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage diverse audiences. Ability to work collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary treatment team. Knowledge of techniques used in the care and treatment of individuals with developmental disabilities and/or severe mental illness. Skill in developing and delivering training programs, including behavior-based supports. Ability to build rapport and communicate effectively with individuals of varying abilities and needs. Proficiency in basic computer applications, including Microsoft Outlook and Word, for documentation and communication. Ability to maintain accurate records, follow directions, and manage multiple tasks in a structured environment. Who should apply? We are seeking professionals who meet the following qualifications: High school diploma or GED, and completion of fifteen job-related college credit hours; AND one of the following: One year of experience as an Adult Training Specialist 1; One year of experience as a vocational trainer working with individuals with disabilities in a community employment program; One year of experience as a teacher's aide in a special education classroom; or Two years of experience as an Attendant Counselor.Note:
Each Residential Habilitation Center specifies the required college credit hours for that facility. Equivalent education and/or experience may be considered.Additional information:
Work schedule: 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday SCC employees also receive an additional $10 per day premium pay in addition to advertised salary and a free ORCA card for transportation use.
