The Adult Education Instructor will provide individualized support for students as well as classroom education. This involves developing lesson plans, organizing classroom activities, monitoring student progress, and maintaining accurate data records. The Adult Education Instructor will support the expansion of YMCA Education Services in the Kenner community.
Essential responsibilities:
Provide classroom-based small group instruction Provide individual student tutoring and follow up as needed Develop standards-aligned lesson plans Input student data as requested by the Director of YMCA Education Services Maintain regular check-ins with each student to discuss progress toward their skills-based goals, address barriers or skills gaps, and connect to supplemental resources, including program instructors or remote tutors as needed Communicate with the Director to document contact hours, track student progress and retention, and facilitate testing as required Complete trainings and attend any virtual meetings required for staff of the YMCA or its adult education program Participate as needed in YMCA activities that support the adult literacy program Class schedule will be 10-11:30 / 11:30-1 Monday and Wednesday. Compensation is $25/hour for 10 hours/week (including instruction, planning time, additional student support, and attendance data entry).
Qualifications & Skills:
Bachelor's degree +3 years of experience serving adults with diverse learning needs and backgrounds, especially low literacy populations Experience with learning plans aligned to educational standards (preference for experience with College and Career Readiness Standards) Competence working with online learning software (specifically Essential Education, IXL) Mission-driven work ethic, adaptability, and strong communication skills in a remote team environment During the hiring process, you will be asked to provide 3 references, consent to a background check, and complete a YMCA Employment Application.
