Job Description

The High School Equivalency ( HSE ) Lab Instructor is a part-time instructional position located at Anson Correctional Institution. Under the direction of the High School Equivalency Director, the HSE Lab Instructor will be responsible for providing reading, writing, and math support to assist adult learners in earning a high school equivalency diploma and transitioning to post-secondary training and/or employment. Essential Duties Summary Plan and facilitate mini lessons for adults who lack a high school credential in language arts and math using the NC Adult Education Content Standards Support critical thinking skills in students to support success in high school equivalency exam preparation in reading, writing, math, science, and social studies knowledge Use technology to support instruction Communicate academic material in a positive and appropriate learning environment Maintain required paperwork for the class including an online attendance roster, registration forms, and student portfolios Communicate with the High School Equivalency Director Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree Ability to work positively and cooperatively with students and ACI staff Sensitive to students with diverse educational backgrounds Ability to multitask in a classroom setting Excellent attention to detail Ability to facilitate basic test taking skills Eligible for facility entry and willing to complete required training session Preferred Qualifications Experience in teaching adult students Experience in teaching Adult Basic Skills and/or public schools Experience working and or volunteering with individuals with diverse educational backgrounds Ability to facilitate Math learning through Algebra and Geometry level Physical Demands Special Conditions Eligibility Summary Eeo Statement Summary South Piedmont Community College provides equal employment opportunities to all applicants and employees based on job related criteria without reference to race, color, national origin, religion, gender, age, disability, genetic information, or any other legally protected classification.
