An Adult Basic Education or Literacy Instructor works with adults, including young adults who are out of school, to improve literacy and strengthen basic skills in reading, writing and math. Helps students to learn English or gain a high school diploma or equivalent certificate. Assesses students' educational levels, skills and goals, and differentiates instruction as needed for adults at different levels in one class. May focus on basic skills as needed for a particular occupation, or assist students with developing study skills or job search skills, or help students connect with social services.

An Adult Education Classroom Assistant provides support to instructors in evening career training programs. They assist instructor with various tasks and functions, including: Observation and coaching to support the safety of students within the classroom and lab areas Development of lesson plans and delivery of instruction within established curriculum guidelines Preparation of classroom materials and supplies for classroom and laboratory instruction including handouts, electronic materials, lab materials, etc. Interacting with students, providing one-on-one support and observing projects in lab Maintaining equipment in the classroom Maintaining inventory of consumable supplies needed for class including contacting vendors for materials and quotes.
