An Adult Basic Education or Literacy Instructor works with adults, including young adults who are out of school, to improve literacy and strengthen basic skills in reading, writing and math. Helps students to learn English or gain a high school diploma or equivalent certificate. Assesses students' educational levels, skills and goals, and differentiates instruction as needed for adults at different levels in one class. May focus on basic skills as needed for a particular occupation, or assist students with developing study skills or job search skills, or help students connect with social services.

Job Duties Job Duty Conducts weekly orientations for Adult Education ESL grant program, using existing presentation and required forms. Addresses student questions during orientation, providing follow up information as needed. Job Duty Contact students after orientation to ensure that all participants provide required documentation, complete tests, and successfully enroll in and attend courses. Job Duty Outreach, promote and communicate with potential students to direct them to available orientations. Job Duty Complete administrative tasks pertaining to the documentation of orientations, including maintaining and turning in sign in sheets, logging orientation attendance, and reviewing all student documents for accuracy and completion.
