Our research centers and institutes forward groundbreaking research within the built environment that advances dynamic, sustainable and just places. They include National Center for Smart Growth, Colvin Institute of Real Estate Development, and Environmental Finance Center. Our research labs forward cutting-edge approaches to shed light on critical issues and discoveries within Maryland communities and beyond. They include Stormwater Infrastructure Resilience and Justice (SIRJ) Lab, Archaeology and Historic Preservation Lab, and Bostwick House.Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The Architecture Program within the School of Architecture, Planning, and Preservation at the University of Maryland, College Park, seeks a part time Lecturer for the upcoming academic year 2026-27 to teach ARCH400 - Architecture Design Studio I and similar courses. The chosen candidate should expect to attend an orientation session for lecturers in the Architecture building, comply with the policies and procedures found in the Architecture Program Faculty Handbook, consult the Architecture Program Calendar prior to planning the semester's activities, write a course syllabus in compliance with University of Maryland and Architecture Program policy, provide students with a written assessment of their progress minimally at mid-semester and notify the Architecture Program Director in writing of any student who is failing the course. Additionally, lecturers meet at the time and place specified in the University's online course schedule, Testudo (http://testudo.umd.edu), and offer a final examination at the time and place designated in Testudo. For studio courses the final review counts as a final examination. Please note that all courses will be taught in person on the College Park campus. The Architecture Program has a national reputation for design excellence in building craft, urban design, and sustainability as evidenced by the award-winning Integrated Design studio and Advanced Technology course sequence; numerous honors in the arena of urban design including two ULIHines Competition wins and six times in the final four in ten years; WaterShed, the first-place winner at the 2011 United States Department of Energy Solar Decathlon along with LEAF House (second place in 2007) and reACT (second place in 2017) making us the international leader in this competition; in six years we've placed first twice and were runner up twice in the HUD Affordable Housing competition; and many other citations.Physical Demands:

In compliance with the University System of Maryland Policy on Appointment, Evaluation, and Promotion Procedures (AEP), the Architecture Program's minimum criteria for appointment of instructional professional track faculty is:Education and Experience:
A Master's degree in the field of instruction or related field and demonstrated successful teaching at the college level and/or relevant professional experience Criteria for evaluating candidates will include the following: Evidence of success in teaching undergraduate students. Evidence of expertise that complements or contributes to delivery of undergraduate architecture courses. Demonstrated ability to contribute to the mission of the Architecture Program, and the University of Maryland.Preferences:
- Experience teaching large classes (50+) is preferred Candidates who demonstrate a commitment and experience working closely with students and colleagues in architectural design studios will be given preference
Additional Information:
All professional track and adjunct faculty shall be hired through formal, transparent, and systematic processes. Criteria for evaluating candidates will include the following:- Evidence of success in teaching undergraduate students.
