Village Youth Conservatory is a boutique string and chamber music school in Newton, MA, founded and directed by a Juilliard- and Yale-trained violinist. We work with a thoughtfully selected roster of students across all levels — from curious beginners finding their footing to dedicated pre-conservatory students preparing for the next chapter. We are a small school by design. Our students get real attention, our families feel genuinely known, and our faculty are true collaborators — not interchangeable names on a schedule. We are expanding into cello and are looking for a wonderful teacher to found our cello studio. This is a ground-floor opportunity — you would be shaping the culture, the repertoire approach, and the student experience of an entirely new arm of the school, with the full support of an established institution behind you. What the role involves:

Weekly private cello lessons for a growing roster of students across levels

Proactivemunication with students and families — progress updates, repertoire conversations, honest feedback

Preparing students for recitals, auditions, youth orchestra,petitions, or exams as relevant to their goals

Participating in school recitals andmunity events

Keeping lesson notes and tracking student progress over time

Qualifications:

Required:

Bachelor's or Master's degree in cello performance or music education from a conservatory or accredited university

Real teaching experience across a range of student levels and ages

Strongmunication andanizational habits — families should always feel informed and supported Strongly preferred: Graduate-level conservatory training (Juilliard, NEC, Yale, Peabody, Colburn, Manhattan, or equivalent)

Familiarity with established pedagogical approaches — Suzuki or others you have genuinely studied (formal certification is not required)

Experience guiding students through pre-college program auditions, youth orchestra, orpetitions This role is probably not the right fit if you are primarily looking for ie to bridge between gigs, or if last-minute cancellations are a pattern for you. The students and families we work with have built their schedules around their lessons, and we take that trust seriously.
