The ideal candidate will foster students' creativity, appreciation, and visual arts skills through engaging, hands-on experiences such as drawing, painting, sculpting, and exploring various artistic techniques and mediums. They should also incorporate design thinking methodologies and tools when applicable, encouraging students to approach art with curiosity, innovation, and problem-solving skills, helping them express themselves, and develop a lifelong appreciation for the arts. Qualifications Minimum of three-five years teaching art in a K-8 setting. Strong interpersonal communication skills and experience building meaningful partnerships with students, colleagues, and parents to foster a collaborative and supportive learning environment. Familiarity with, or willingness to learn, digital design software such as Adobe Creative Suite, vector-based software, or Cricut Design Space to create precise and optimized vector files for laser cutting and Cricut projects. Knowledge of and experience with art education standards and strategies for standards-referenced curriculum and assessment. Ability to collaborate with colleagues across disciplines and grade levels to create interdisciplinary and cross-curricular projects that incorporate art. Bachelor's degree in art education or a related field; teaching certificate preferred. Primary Duties Teach six sections of elementary and middle school art. Serve as a member of the school's Design Thinking team, collaborating with colleagues to integrate art into the program by developing interdisciplinary projects, guiding students in creative problem-solving, and incorporating digital and hands-on artistic techniques to enhance the design thinking process. Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate design thinking methodologies into interdisciplinary projects, using art as a medium to help students explore, prototype, and solve real-world challenges creatively. Actively pursue professional development in the areas of pedagogy, teaching techniques, and technology relevant to the field and subject. Responsibilities Plan and deliver dynamic art lessons for students in grades K-5, focusing on foundational art techniques, creativity, and self-expression through various mediums such as drawing, painting, and sculpting. Incorporate design thinking methodologies into the art curriculum, guiding students through the stages of empathy, ideation, prototyping, and reflection to solve creative challenges and explore interdisciplinary concepts. Integrate digital design programs into the curriculum. Partner with classroom teachers to develop and implement integrated projects that combine art with other subjects, enhancing student understanding and engagement through creative problem-solving and hands-on activities. Foster an environment that encourages an appreciation for visual arts by introducing students to diverse artistic styles, cultural influences, and historical perspectives, broadening their understanding of art's role in the world. Organize and maintain a welcoming, well-equipped art classroom that inspires creativity, ensures the proper care of art supplies, and provides students with the tools and space needed to experiment and thrive. Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures in accordance with the disciplinary systems of the school. Provide appropriate feedback and encouragement to students on their work. Provide a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational activities. Attend in­-services, faculty meetings, teacher workdays, and professional development opportunities. Maintain care/responsibility for school­ owned art materials and equipment to prevent loss or abuse.
