Job Overview Korean American Center (KAC) is the first WASC-accredited Korean language program in the United States and is home to an officially designated King Sejong Institute (세종학당). Our mission is to celebrate, preserve, and nourish Korean heritage while building stronger connections among intergenerational Korean Americans and the broader community. Our programs provide Korean heritage learners with opportunities to reclaim their culture, deepen their understanding, and connect across generations. For non-Korean learners, we make Korean language and culture more visible and accessible while fostering cross-cultural appreciation. By making Korean language and culture accessible to all, KAC builds lasting understanding, strengthens shared identity, and creates bridges across communities. We are seeking passionate and dedicated Korean Language Instructors who align with our mission and are committed to learner-centered teaching, continuous improvement, and professional growth. Instructors will design and implement lesson plans, contribute to curriculum development, and teach students in both in-person and online settings. Duties Design and implement comprehensive Korean language curricula tailored to different age groups and proficiency levels. Develop engaging, learner-centered lesson plans incorporating interactive activities and modern educational technology. Deliver effective instruction in both in-person and online settings, promoting clear communication and active student participation. Regularly assess student progress through formative and summative evaluations and provide timely, constructive feedback. Integrate Korean traditions, history, customs, and contemporary culture into language instruction. Collaborate with other instructors and program staff to develop curriculum and lesson plans aligned with ACTFL proficiency guidelines, WASC accreditation standards, and King Sejong Institute requirements. Participate reliably in teacher meetings, training, professional development, and other program-support activities. Teach primarily during evening hours, when most of our students are available. Some weekend availability may also be required depending on program needs. Skills A strong commitment to learner-centered teaching and a passion for Korean language and culture. Experience developing Korean language curricula and effective lesson plans. Strong classroom management skills and the ability to engage learners across a wide age range, from youth to older adults. Proficiency in using educational technology to support instruction, communication, and student participation. Strong writing skills for lesson planning, student assessments, feedback, and educational content development. Confidence and presence when leading live classes in both in-person and online environments. A collaborative and dependable approach to teamwork, meetings, and program responsibilities. A growth mindset and genuine interest in strengthening one's teaching practice through mentorship, training, and reflection. A meaningful investment in KAC's mission and long-term growth, including a willingness to contribute beyond the classroom and help shape the organization's future. Qualifications Eligibility to work in the United States. Experience teaching or tutoring students in language learning. Experience with lesson planning and curriculum development. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with learners of different ages, backgrounds, and proficiency levels. Demonstrated ability to create engaging, organized, and effective lessons. Familiarity with ACTFL World-Readiness Standards and proficiency-based instruction, or a willingness to learn. Technology proficiency for online and hybrid teaching, including experience with Zoom, learning management systems, and digital classroom tools. A commitment to continuous professional growth through mentorship, training, collaboration, and reflective practice. Certification in Teaching Korean as a Foreign Language, or a willingness to pursue certification if not already held. Compensation based on teaching experience, education, qualifications, and other experience relevant to the position. Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Korean American Center (KAC) is recognized as a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. As a result, full-time employment with KAC may qualify as eligible public service employment for the federal Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program, subject to all requirements and determinations made by the U.S. Department of Education. Employees are responsible for confirming their individual eligibility and submitting any required PSLF employment certification forms.
