We offer one-on-one tutoring, small-group individualized instruction, academic enrichment, homework support, test preparation, and after-school programs. We are currently looking for a Spanish tutor/instructor who is comfortable working with students from TK through 12th grade , including students taking advanced high school and AP Spanish courses. Our students come to us with different goals and levels of Spanish experience. Some are young beginners learning their first Spanish vocabulary and conversational skills, while others need support with school coursework, grammar, reading, writing, speaking, test preparation, or AP-level Spanish. What Teaching Spanish at Summa Looks Like Depending on student enrollment and your experience, you may work with students one-on-one or in small groups .
Instruction may include:
TK-Elementary Spanish:
vocabulary, pronunciation, basic conversation, songs, stories, games, and age-appropriate reading/writing
Middle School Spanish:
vocabulary, grammar, reading comprehension, writing, conversation, and school coursework
High School Spanish:
Spanish I-IV coursework, grammar, literature, writing, speaking, listening comprehension, and test preparation
AP Spanish:
support for AP-level coursework and exam preparation, including reading, listening, interpersonal and presentational communication, essay writing, cultural topics, and AP-style practice Homework, projects, quizzes, tests, and other school-specific assignments Students may also enroll for ongoing Spanish enrichment rather than assistance with a particular school class. We want instructors who can actually teach Spanish , rather than simply supervise students while they complete assignments. You will receive information about each student's grade level, needs, and learning goals, while also having flexibility to use your own teaching methods, activities, worksheets, and supplemental materials. Responsibilities Provide engaging, level-appropriate Spanish instruction for TK-12 students Teach vocabulary, grammar, reading, writing, listening, pronunciation, and conversation as appropriate for each student's level Support students with Spanish schoolwork, tests, quizzes, projects, and presentations Provide advanced instruction and exam preparation for AP Spanish students when qualified Assess students' strengths and areas needing improvement and adjust instruction accordingly Prepare appropriate lesson materials and activities for scheduled sessions Provide brief student feedback/progress notes after instruction Maintain a positive, focused, and supportive learning environment Communicate with Summa staff regarding student needs and progress Arrive on time and maintain a reliable teaching schedule Who We're Looking For We welcome experienced Spanish teachers and tutors as well as qualified college students, graduate students, recent graduates, and native or highly proficient Spanish speakers with strong teaching ability.
Ideal candidates are:
Fluent or highly proficient in Spanish Comfortable teaching children and teenagers Able to teach Spanish in an engaging, age-appropriate way Comfortable adjusting instruction for very different age groups and proficiency levels Strong in Spanish grammar, vocabulary, reading, writing, listening, and speaking Able to explain grammatical concepts clearly rather than relying solely on conversational fluency Comfortable independently preparing lessons and instructional materials Reliable and consistent with scheduling Organized, patient, encouraging, and professional Comfortable teaching one-on-one and/or small groups For instructors interested in working with our advanced students, experience with AP Spanish Language and Culture and/or AP Spanish Literature and Culture is highly preferred. Previous Spanish teaching, tutoring, classroom, after-school, or youth education experience is preferred. Native Spanish speakers are encouraged to apply. Bilingual English/Spanish is strongly preferred. Bilingual English/Spanish/Mandarin is a plus, but Mandarin is not required. Education High school diploma required. Current college students, college graduates, credentialed teachers, substitute teachers, graduate students, Spanish majors/minors, education majors, and other qualified educators are encouraged to apply. Candidates with coursework or degrees in Spanish, Education, Linguistics, Latin American Studies, or related fields are especially encouraged to apply. Scheduling & Hours This is a part-time position. Hours depend on student enrollment, instructor availability, and the grade levels and Spanish courses the instructor is qualified to teach. Center hours are generally Monday-Saturday, 1:00 PM-8:00 PM, subject to change. Most students attend after school, so weekday afternoon/evening availability is especially helpful. Instructors who can teach a wider range of grade levels—including middle school, high school, and AP Spanish—may have additional opportunities to be matched with students as enrollment grows.
