Spanish Teacher - Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)

The Tennessee School for the Blind is seeking a Spanish Teacher to provide standards-based instruction to students who are visually impaired, including students with additional disabilities. The teacher will develop and deliver individualized instruction aligned with Tennessee State Standards and students' Individualized Education Plans (IEPs). The selected candidate will support student learning through adapted instructional materials, effective classroom management, progress monitoring, and collaboration with parents and educational teams. Candidates with appropriate teaching certification will be considered and will have the opportunity to obtain a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) endorsement within five years.

Responsibilities:

Provide Spanish instruction to K-12 students with visual impairments and additional disabilities. Develop lesson plans and adapt instructional materials based on student needs and IEP goals. Deliver individual and group instruction aligned with Tennessee State Standards. Monitor student progress through assessments, data collection, and reporting. Support development of academic, daily living, and technology skills for students with visual impairments. Collaborate with special education teams, parents, and school staff to support student success. Maintain a positive and inclusive classroom environment. Participate in professional development, team meetings, school activities, and field trips as required.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Education from an accredited college/university. Eligible for Tennessee educator licensure. Spanish subject area endorsement/certification preferred. Willingness to obtain Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) endorsement within 5 years. Strong communication, teamwork, classroom management, and instructional skills.

Preferred Skills:

Experience working with students with disabilities. Knowledge of IEP development and implementation. Experience with differentiated instruction and adapted learning materials. Ability to integrate educational technology into instruction.

Employment Requirements:

Must successfully complete TBI/FBI fingerprinting and background checks. Must verify education, experience, employment history, and references. Must comply with Tennessee School for the Blind policies and state employment requirements.

Pay:

$28.00 - $30.00 per hour
