The UWA Department of Physical and Life Sciences in the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Biology.

Effective Date:

January 1, 2027

Responsibilities:

Teach introductory biology, genetics, cell biology, and other undergraduate and graduate courses as needed based on departmental needs and applicants' expertise. Teach online courses based on departmental needs and applicants' expertise. Direct undergraduate and graduate research. Serve on departmental and university committees. Perform other duties as assigned by the Chairperson and Dean. Fulfill other duties expected of a faculty member, such as student advising, departmental recruitment and retention activities, public services, etc.

Qualifications Required:

Ph.D. in Biology, Cell and Molecular Biology, Genetics, or a related field (ABD candidates may be considered). Commitment to excellence in teaching undergraduate and graduate courses. Ability to direct undergraduate and graduate research. Potential and dedication to attract extramural funding. Ability to work effectively with administration, facutly, staff, and students from varied socioeconomic/ethnic backgrounds.

Desired:

Postdoctoral experience in modern and emerging technologies. Recent research publications. Successful teaching in a small student-centered regional university setting. Successful experience in directing undergraduate and graduate research. Successful experience in obtaining extramural funding. Demonstrated ability to secure external funding through grant writing. Successful experience in advising students. Experience with online courses. A commitment to participate in recruting students our programs.
