Youth participate during the regular swim season May through July by way of the Mini Waver Program (swim lessons for ages 4-6), and by competing with the swim team (ages 6-18). Young swimmers experience a competitive swim environment and train with top coaches on fundamental skills, confidence, and team building. The Wave is an excellent way for future generations in our desirable community to foster health, responsibility, friendship, and citizenship. Assistant Coach /

Head Mini Coach Responsibilities:

• Assist the Head Coach in all aspects of the swim team practice sessions and participation of athletes, awards, and contributing to the overall culture of the Woodbourne Wave
• Provide instruction and guidance to athletes as part of the regular swim season
• Conduct practice sessions and assist with team activities during practices/meets
• Evaluate athlete performance and provide feedback for improvement
• Ensure the safety and well-being of athletes during training and competitions
• Collaborate with the coaching staff and committee to create a positive and supportive team environment
• Assist the Committee with swimmer and meet logistics

Skills:

• Knowledge and experience in sports coaching, particularly in swimming (previous experience preferred)
• Excellent behavior management skills to effectively handle athletes' conduct and discipline
• Ability to provide instruction and guidance in various swim techniques and strategies
• Knowledge of childcare principles for working with young athletes
• Understanding of physical education principles to promote athlete development
• Lifeguard certification or ability to obtain one is preferred (not required)
