$1897 stipend, consistent with the amount established in Schedule D of the district's applicable bargaining agreement

Position Overview:
New London Public Schools Athletics Department is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Middle School Boys' Cross Country, Head Coach to lead our program. The ideal candidate will have a passion for the sport and a commitment to fostering the athletic and personal development of student-athletes. The coach will be responsible for planning and executing practices, organizing competitions, and promoting sportsmanship and teamwork.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities:
Plan and lead practices, conditioning, and skill development to promote individual growth, team performance, and competitive readiness. Coach and mentor student-athletes by fostering sportsmanship, teamwork, leadership, discipline, and positive character development. Prepare and supervise teams for competitions, including strategy development, game management, and ensuring student-athlete safety. Communicate and collaborate effectively with student-athletes, families, school staff, and administrators regarding team expectations, schedules, and student progress. Ensure compliance with district policies, athletic association regulations, and safety standards while maintaining accurate team records and supporting student participation.
Minimum Requirements:
Must hold a valid Connecticut State Department of Education (CSDE) Coaching Permit (600) or eligibility to obtain one prior to employment. Current First Aid, CPR/AED, and Concussion certifications as required by the CSDE and/or the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference. Knowledge of the assigned sport, including applicable rules, techniques, and safety practices. Ability to build positive relationships with student-athletes, families, staff, and the school community. Ability to complete all required district screenings and training.
Preferred Requirements:
Bilingual proficiency in Spanish or Haitian Creole highly desirable. Previous coaching experience in the assigned sport at the middle school, high school, collegiate, or equivalent competitive level. Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills with experience developing student-athletes and promoting sportsmanship and teamwork. .
Working Conditions:
Must be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and maintain a flexible schedule.
