Kelly Middle School, Teachers' Memorial Middle School\nReports to: Athletic Facilitator (AF), Principal, Coordinator of Strategic Initiatives\n

Qualifications:

\nCT Coaching Certification required,\nKnowledge/Experience in related sport is preferred,\nCoaching experience preferred\n

Essential Functions:

Help each participating student improve skills and appreciate the values and disciplines related to sportsmanship.

Responsibilities include:

\nCoaching individuals and team to the necessary skill level for meets and competitiveness,\nCollaborates with the AF for scheduling of practices within the season,\nDistributes and collects equipment needed for individual student athlete use and communicates needs to the AF,\nSupports in the rostering, communications, and attendance collecting of student athletes,\nCommunicates with building nursing department for student(s) needs and updates,\nOversees student safety and reports concerns to AF and building principal as needed,\nAdheres to BOE Policy related to behavior, conduct, and attendance for student athletes,\nAdherence to the Norwich Public Schools Athletics Handbook and related materials that comply with CIAC Guidelines for Middle School Athletics,\nMaintains confidentiality, professionalism and ethical standards at all times in all interactions with students, staff, families, officials and community members.\n

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

\nUnderstanding of Sport and Strategies

Comprehensive knowledge of the rules, techniques, and skills related to cross country running at the middle school level.\nYouth Development Principles
Knowledge of age-appropriate training methods and child development (physical, cognitive, and emotional).\nFirst Aid and CPR
Familiarity with emergency procedures, including CPR and first aid certification (often required).\nConcussion and Injury Protocols
Understanding of Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference (CIAC) or school district policies on injuries and concussions.\nEducational and School Policies
Awareness of school district or school policies, codes of conduct, and academic eligibility requirements.\nTeam Management
Knowledge of organizing practices, managing equipment, and coordinating travel or schedules.\nEquity and Inclusion
Understanding of cultural competency, inclusive coaching practices, and gender equity in sports.\nLeadership and Team Building
Ability to inspire, motivate, and develop middle school athletes in a positive, respectful manner.\nEffective Communication
