Job Description

JV/Assistant Baseball Coach

Highland Community School District is currently accepting applications for a JV/Assistant Baseball Coach for the 2026-2027 school year.

Highland CSD is a small, student-centered school district serving approximately 620 students in grades PK-12. Highland Elementary is located in Riverside, Iowa, approximately 15 miles south of Iowa City, with Highland Secondary located nearby along Highway 218.

Position Responsibilities

The JV/Assistant Baseball Coach will work collaboratively with the Head Baseball Coach and other members of the coaching staff to provide a positive experience for Highland student-athletes and support the development of the baseball program.

Responsibilities include:

• Assist the Head Baseball Coach with the overall operation of the Highland baseball program.
• Provide leadership and instruction for the JV baseball team.
• Teach baseball fundamentals, skills, strategies, and team concepts.
• Promote the development of student-athletes for future varsity competition.
• Provide a safe, positive, and supportive environment for all student-athletes.
• Promote sportsmanship, teamwork, responsibility, and fair play.
• Maintain high expectations for student behavior and academic performance.
• Communicate effectively with student-athletes, parents, coaches, and school administration.
• Assist with practices, games, equipment, supervision, and other program responsibilities as assigned by the Head Baseball Coach.
• Follow Highland CSD policies, procedures, and expectations for athletic programs.
• Qualifications
• Iowa Coaching Endorsement or valid Iowa Coaching Authorization.
• Previous baseball playing or coaching experience preferred.
• Ability to work collaboratively with the Head Coach and other members of the coaching staff.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Commitment to developing student-athletes both on and off the field.
