Position Summary
This position supports the development of a competitive JV athletic program focused on skill development, teamwork, confidence, and preparation for higher levels of competition. The coach creates a safe, inclusive, and high-expectation environment where student-athletes grow as athletes and individuals while representing Storm Lake with integrity.
Essential Responsibilities
Implement a structured JV program aligned with the district's athletic program and state guidelines.
Teach sport-specific skills, strategy, conditioning, and teamwork.
Provide opportunities for student-athletes to develop confidence, independence, and leadership.
Prepare student-athletes for future levels of competition through consistent skill development and high expectations.
Promote academic accountability, character development, and good sportsmanship.
Establish clear expectations for conduct, effort, teamwork, and commitment.
Communicate effectively with athletes, families, staff, and the varsity coaching staff.
Ensure safety, compliance, and adherence to district and athletic association policies.
Model professionalism, integrity, and positive leadership.
Required Licensure
All coaches (paid or volunteer) must hold a valid Iowa Coaching Authorization or Coaching Endorsement through the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners (BoEE).
Minimum requirements include:
- At least 18 years of age and a high school diploma or equivalent
- CPR certification
- NFHS concussion training
- Mandatory reporter training
- Completion of an approved 55-hour coaching course (or equivalent coursework)
- Authorization must remain current and in good standing. Candidates may be hired before obtaining authorization, but must complete all requirements and secure Iowa Coaching Authorization within a district-established timeline.
- Qualifications
- Demonstrated knowledge of the sport and coaching principles.
- Ability to teach, motivate, and develop student-athletes.
- Ability to work collaboratively with the varsity coaching staff and athletic department.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Required coaching authorization and certifications (as applicable).
- Terms of Employment
This is a stipend position for the designated season. Employment terms, salary, benefits, and evaluation procedures are established by the Storm Lake Community School District Board of Education and applicable agreements. Continued employment is contingent upon satisfactory performance and compliance with district policies and state and federal regulations.
