Job Description

The City of Rockville Community Services Division is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated individual to support youth development programming. A key component of this role involves supporting the youth mentoring program, assisting with academic enrichment, and coaching basketball and soccer—using sports as a foundation for mentoring, leadership, confidence building, and social-emotional growth.
  • Plan and facilitate sports-based mentorship activities, including basketball and soccer sessions that build teamwork, confidence, and positive peer relationships.
  • Work under the supervision of the Community Services Program Coordinator to support, organize, and lead youth programs.
  • Assist with weekly program sessions and provide on-site support to volunteer staff at various host locations.
  • Support academic enrichment activities to foster educational development and learning skills.
  • Safely operate and drive a program van to transport youth, materials, or equipment as needed.
  • Support program outreach and participant retention efforts.
  • Lead social-skills games, team-building exercises, and structured group activities that promote youth development. Required Skills & Experience
  • Knowledge of coaching basketball and soccer (required).
  • Ability to assist with academic enrichment activities.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to drive a passenger van.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor youth through sports-based engagement.
  • Strong communication, organization, and teamwork skills.
  • Should be comfortable in indoor and outdoor settings.
  • Ability to create a structured, supportive, and inclusive environment for youth.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Coursework or training in education, recreation, child development, or related fields
  • CPR/First Aid certification
  • Prior experience in structured mentoring programs.
