The Varsity Softball Coach is responsible for leading and managing the high school varsity softball program. This includes developing athletes' skills, fostering sportsmanship, organizing practices and competitions, ensuring student safety, and promoting academic success. The coach serves as a role model for student-athletes and upholds the mission, values, and athletic policies of the school district and the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA). Qualification Requirements:

• Possession of a high school diploma or its equivalent required, college degree preferred
• Knowledge of softball fundamentals, strategies, and training techniques
• Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills
• Ability to work effectively with high school-aged students
• Must meet all district and/or state requirements for school coaches (including background check, CPR/First Aid certification, and any necessary coaching certifications or training)
• Previous experience coaching or playing basketball at the high school or competitive youth level

Essential Job Functions:

• Plan, organize, and conduct practices, conditioning sessions, and competitions focused on teaching skills, strategies, rules, and sportsmanship.
• Foster a positive team culture emphasizing respect, teamwork, discipline, safety, academic responsibility, and school spirit.
• Coordinate game schedules, transportation, travel, field preparation, equipment, uniforms, and team inventory with the Athletic Director.
• Ensure timely completion and submission of all required eligibility documentation, including physicals, rosters, athletic codes, and related paperwork.
• Monitor student-athlete academic and behavioral progress and communicate with students, families, teachers, administrators, and athletic staff as needed.
• Provide instruction, mentoring, feedback, and individualized support to athletes of varying skill levels, including guidance on post-secondary opportunities.
• Promote injury prevention and follow appropriate procedures for injuries, medical clearance, and return to participation.
• Ensure compliance with district policies, school regulations, and MHSAA rules, regulations, and eligibility requirements.
• Promote off-season training, camps, conditioning, fundraising, program publicity, and other opportunities that support program development.
• Attend required meetings, clinics, and professional development; maintain positive relationships with students, staff, families, coaches, and the community; perform other duties as assigned.
