Job Description

Position Summary

The High School Assistant Track Coach supports the head coach in developing and maintaining a competitive track and field program that promotes student growth, teamwork, sportsmanship, discipline, and academic success. The assistant coach will help provide a safe, positive, and well-organized experience for all student-athletes.

Qualifications

Valid Missouri teaching certificate preferred, but not required

Previous track and field coaching or competitive experience preferred

Knowledge of track and field fundamentals, techniques, training methods, and safety procedures

Ability to complete all district and MSHSAA coaching requirements

Current CPR, AED, and first-aid certification or willingness to obtain certification

Successful completion of required background checks

Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills

Ability to work effectively with students, families, staff members, and other coaches

Commitment to modeling appropriate conduct, sportsmanship, and professional behavior

Essential Responsibilities

Assist the head coach in planning and conducting practices, workouts, competitions, and team activities.

Provide instruction in assigned track and field events.

Teach proper techniques, conditioning methods, rules, and safety procedures.

Supervise student-athletes during practices, meets, travel, locker-room use, and other team activities.

Help maintain a safe and positive environment for all participants.

Support the head coach in developing practice plans, meet lineups, and athlete development plans.

Promote teamwork, responsibility, discipline, sportsmanship, and respect.

Encourage student-athletes to maintain appropriate academic performance, attendance, and behavior.

Assist with equipment setup, inventory, storage, care, and distribution.

Help prepare facilities and equipment for practices and home meets.

Attend required coaches' meetings, parent meetings, practices, competitions, and postseason activities.

Assist with team transportation procedures and supervise athletes during travel.

Communicate professionally with athletes, parents, coaches, officials, administrators, and community members.

Follow all Fair Grove R-X School District policies and applicable MSHSAA rules.

Immediately report injuries, safety concerns, student concerns, and policy violations to the head coach or appropriate administrator.

Maintain the confidentiality of student and personnel information.

Support the overall athletic program and perform other coaching-related duties assigned by the head coach or Activities Director.

Place student safety and well-being above competitive outcomes.

Treat athletes fairly and respectfully.

Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with students.

Promote the values and expectations of Fair Grove High School.

Work cooperatively with other coaches and school personnel.

Demonstrate dependability, punctuality, and professional judgment.

Represent the district positively at practices, competitions, and community events.

Physical Requirements

The position may require the employee to:

Stand, walk, run, bend, lift, and remain active for extended periods.

Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Lift, carry, set up, and store athletic equipment.

Travel with the team to practices and competitions.

Respond appropriately to athletic injuries and emergency situations.

Terms of Employment

This is a seasonal, extra-duty position. The work schedule will include practices, meets, travel, meetings, and other activities necessary for the operation of the program. Compensation will be determined according to the district's approved extra-duty salary schedule.

Evaluation

Performance will be evaluated by the head coach and/or Activities Director in accordance with district procedures. Continued assignment is based on performance, program needs, district approval, and annual appointment.
