The Junior College of Kansas City, as it was known starting in 1919, was one of the first schools in the country to award an associate degree. Today, MCC offers 125 associate degree and certificate programs. Metropolitan Community College comprises five campuses on the Missouri side of the Greater Kansas City area 47 major buildings and about 550 acres in all: MCC-Blue River , located in Independence, Missouri; MCC-Longview located in Lee's Summit, Missouri, MCC-Maple Woods located in the Northland of Kansas City, Missouri; MCC-Online and MCC-Penn Valley , located in Midtown Kansas City, Missouri. POOL POSITION
Application materials for this position is accepted on an on-going basis due to increasing demand. The Assistant Volleyball Coach has the responsibility for assisting the Head Coach with the overall management and supervision of all aspects of the volleyball athletic program including, but not limited to recruiting, planning and managing practices, fundraising, game stats, equipment management, and monitoring academic progress and eligibility of student-athletes. The position is fully responsible for compliance with the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) rules and regulations as well as MCC's policies governing intercollegiate athletics.
Employment Restrictions:
An annuitant of the Missouri Retirement System must adhere to the applicable regulations. Employees, who possess a valid Missouri Teaching Certificate, may be required to participate in the Public School Retirement System of Missouri (PSRS). Temporary faculty may be assigned up to ten (10) work units per semester for fall and spring. An additional two (2) work units per term may be assigned with approval from the dean and notification to human resources but no more than twenty-four (24) work units in an academic year. For summer, work units may not exceed 3.5 work units in June, and 3.5 work units in July. Noncredit courses taught during the normal academic year are included in these limitations.
Combination Load Maximum:
If a temporary faculty member's load includes work unit and clock hour assignments, the combined weekly clock hour total will be monitored to adhere to temporary faculty assignment limitations. Employees assigned responsibilities as coaches are compensated based on assigned work units or clock-hours, in accordance with MCCKC guidelines for temporary employment. Actual salary is between $10,000 - $11,970 /year. Essential Functions Assist the head coach with all day-to-day coaching duties, including organization and management of all practices and games Assist the head coach with the preparation, performance and evaluation of athletes at all practices and games Provide expertise in the development of student-athletes' athletic skills. This includes position-specific instruction and training Assist the head coach with organizing, overseeing, and managing the off-season physical conditioning and training program for the athletic team Assist with monitoring academic progress and eligibility of student-athletes in accordance with MCC's Student-Athlete Success Plan Assist with the coordination and managing the operational aspects of the athletic team including but not limited to game stats; game and practice schedules; game day setup; equipment/uniform inventory; travel, purchasing, and expenditure paperwork; and athletic facilities as assigned Attend high school/club games and other recruitment events to observe potential student-athletes. Assist in managing aspects of campus visits for potential student-athletes including but not limited to tryouts, workouts, tours, meeting with academic advisors and the office of Financial Aid Develop relationships and maintain regular communication with high school/club coaches, two-year and four-year coaches, and professional scouts Meet with prospective student athletes, and their families Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Physical Requirements Minimum Qualifications:
Associate's degree OR Three (3) years of directly related experience including coaching and/or playing at the collegiate or professional level
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively with all constituencies of a diverse community Ability to work well with others Strong oral and written communication skills Physical Requirements Positions in this class typically require frequent mobility within campus buildings, on athletic fields or courts, and in the community. Duties involve physical activities such as standing, walking, climbing, crouching, bending, stretching, pulling, pushing, talking, hearing, and visual acuity. The work is classified as medium, requiring the ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 30 pounds frequently, and up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
