The Junior College of Kansas City, as it was known starting in 1919, was one of the first schools in the country to award an associate degree. Today, MCC offers 125 associate degree and certificate programs. Metropolitan Community College comprises five campuses on the Missouri side of the Greater Kansas City area 47 major buildings and about 550 acres in all: MCC-Blue River , located in Independence, Missouri; MCC-Longview located in Lee's Summit, Missouri, MCC-Maple Woods located in the Northland of Kansas City, Missouri; MCC-Online and MCC-Penn Valley , located in Midtown Kansas City, Missouri. MCC is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission . In addition, several programs have specific accreditations as well. •MCC does not provide employer-paid sponsorships. Job Summary Incumbents provide leadership and direction for academic and student services management. Essential Functions Direct and oversee staff which includes prioritizing and assigning work, conducting performance evaluations, ensuring staff are trained, ensuring that employees follow policies and procedures, maintaining a healthy and safe working environment and making hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations Provide leadership and oversight in directing the implementation of internal operations for academic and student services programs to include planning, coordinating, administering and evaluating programs, projects, processes, procedures, systems, standards and/or service offerings, ensuring compliance with Federal, State, and Local laws, regulations, codes and/or standards and coordinating activities between multiple departments or functions Provide leadership in the design, strategy, implementation, and assessment of goals, policies, objectives, and activities related to administrative, academic, and student services functions; work may involve reviewing and approving courses, programs, policies and other related items, planning and assessing resource needs, contracting services when required and researching higher educational and student services trends and materials Develop and maintain internal and external relationships, participate in/on a variety of meetings, committees, task forces and/or other related groups to communicate information regarding services, programs, areas of opportunity and/or other information • Represent assigned academic area on committees, advocacy groups, and/or other related groups Prepare and administer budgets and grants, prepare cost estimates for budget recommendations, review and approve justifications for budget items and oversee the monitoring and control of expenditures Direct and review a variety of multi-faceted information, data, and reports and make recommendations based on findings Develop and implement strategic directions for curriculum and student service functions at the campus in alignment with district goals and guidelines Develop strategic direction for college readiness programs and professional development at the campus in alignment with district goals and guidelines Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Physical Requirements Minimum Qualifications:
Master's degree in a related field to assigned area Five (5) years academic or student services management experience
Preferred Qualifications:
Doctorate degree
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of leadership principles Knowledge of program development and administration principles and practices at a college- wide level Knowledge of higher education administration principles and practices Knowledge of advanced principles and practices in assigned area of responsibility Knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws, rules, regulations, codes, and/or statutes Knowledge of budgeting principles Knowledge of strategic planning principles Knowledge of policy and procedure development practices Skilled in directing and providing leadership to lower-level staff Skilled in directing, monitoring, and evaluating Collegiate policies and procedures Skilled in planning, coordinating, and implementing college-wide components and activities Skilled in developing, managing, and administering budgets Skilled in interpreting and applying applicable laws, rules, and regulations Skilled in analyzing academic and administrative projects, programs, and processes for areas of improvement Skilled in preparing a variety of reports Skilled in utilizing communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, and others sufficient to exchange or convey information Physical Requirements Positions in this class typically require grasping, hearing, keyboarding, reaching, repetitive motion, standing, talking, visual acuity, and walking. The work is sedentary work which requires exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly.
