Job Description Athletic Coach Job Summary To instruct athletes in the fundamentals skills, strategy and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success. At the same time, the student shall receive instruction that will lead to the formulation of moral values, pride of accomplishment, acceptable social behavior, self-discipline and self-confidence.Reports To:
Athletic Director/School Principal Qualifications 1. Valid New Mexico Coaching Certification 2. Employment as a teacher in the Aztec Municipal School District (Preferred). 3. Has previous successful coaching experience in assigned sport. 4. Has the ability to organize and supervise a total sports program. 5. The head coach must have substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport and at the same time must continue to examine new theories and procedures pertinent to the field. Desired Qualifications 1. Has a thorough knowledge of all athletic policies approved by the Aztec Board of Education and is responsible for their implementation by the entire staff of the sports program. 2. Has knowledge of existing system, state and NMAA regulations and implements them consistently. 3. Understands the proper administrative line of command and refers all requests or grievances through proper channels. Is aware of all public/staff/departmental meetings that require attendance. 4. Delegates specific duties, supervises implementation, and at season's end, analyzes staff effectiveness and evaluates all assistants. 5. Maintains discipline, adjusts grievances and works to increase morale and cooperation. 6. Perform such other duties, which may be assigned by the athletic director. Essential Duties and Responsibilities 1. Is responsible for team selection, athlete position and playing time. 2. Establishes the fundamental philosophy, skills and techniques to be taught by coaching staff. Designs conferences, clinics and staff meetings to ensure staff awareness of the overall program. 3. Encourages professional growth by encouraging clinic attendance according to school policy. 4. Assists the athletic director in scheduling, requesting transportation, and other special needs for tournaments, or playoff events. 5. Assists in the necessary preparation to scheduled sport events or practices and adheres to scheduled facility times. 6. Completes reports of all athletic injuries on proper forms and submits to athletic office within 24 hours. 7. Directs, student managers, assistants and statisticians. 8. Assists athletes in their college or advanced educational selection. 9. Participates in the budget process with the athletic director. Recommends equipment guidelines as to type, style, color or technical specifications. Is responsible for operating within budget appropriations. 10. Is accountable for all equipment and reports the cost of any equipment lost or not returned. Arranges for issuing, storing and reconditioning of equipment and submits annual inventory and current records. 11. Responsible for cleanliness and maintenance of specific sport equipment. Properly marks and identifies all equipment before issuing or storing. 12. Examines locker rooms before and after practices and games. Checks on general cleanliness of the facility. 13. Secures all doors, lights, windows and locks before leaving building when custodians are not on duty. 14. Instills in each player a respect for equipment and school property, its care and proper use. 15. Organizes parents, coaches, players and guests for pre-season meetings. 16. Play an active role in the booster club. Informing them of rules, policies, and changes. 17. Promote the sport within the school by recruiting athletes that are not participating in sports. Promote sports outside the school through news media, youth organizations or in any other publicity vehicle. 18. Ensures quality, effectiveness and validity of any oral or written release to local media. 19. Maintain good public relations with news media, booster club, parents, officials, volunteers and fans. 20. Presents information to the news media concerning game results, awards, etc. Supervises Assistant coaches in conjunction with the athletic director and the respective principal. Confidentiality Due to the sensitive nature of this position and access to financial and student information, the highest degree if confidentiality is required. Must complete a finger-print background check Desired Qualifications 1. Supervisory Experience in a Related Field 2. Certification in specified areas related building systems 3. Knowledge and experience in Bond Planning, Construction Supervision, Asbestos Abatement, and Notification Requirements 4. Knowledge of Data Driven Instructional Practices and Professional Learning Communities Essential Functions 1. Design and implement a Maintenance Work Order system that is effective and efficient for district staff and maintenance staff. A system to prioritize maintenance work orders needs to be included in this system. 2. Develop and oversee a system to inspect completed work assignments, to monitor incomplete or unfinished job assignments and to eliminate any maintenance backlogs at each school site. 3. Ensure that all custodial and maintenance equipment is purchased, maintained and repaired as needed. 4. Assist maintenance personnel with the planning and development of a Preventative Maintenance Program for each district building. 5. Plan and coordinate a safety-training program for all Custodial and Maintenance and Grounds Staff. 6. Coordinate snow removal as necessary across the district. 7. Plan and coordinate ongoing training in HVAC systems, asbestos, mechanical, electrical, plumbing and other areas as needed for the Custodial and Maintenance Staff. 8. Oversee the safe and effective implementation of new products for the Custodial and Maintenance Staff. 9. Perform personnel evaluations and administer disciplinary measures as needed in conjunction with the appropriate site administrator, the Deputy Superintendent and the Superintendent of Schools. 10. Interview and recommend the hiring of maintenance, custodial and grounds personnel for the district to the Deputy Superintendent. 11. Provide oversight for and establish processes for key control and distribution. 12. Assist in preparation of bids in compliance with the Procurement Code section of the NM Statutes and assist in processing quotes for all construction and maintenance work performed by outside contractors. 13. Oversee new construction and two mill projects. 14. Submit a budget proposal annually to the Associate Superintendent of Finance that supports the financial needs of the department. The Director of Facilities and Operations is also accountable for that budget. 15. Coordinate the invoicing, projected expenses, and receipt of materials, supplies, and equipment for the department through guidance provided in the Business Office Procedures Manual. 16. Plan and coordinate summer maintenance staff and work activities for the district in conjunction with district administration. 17. Assign and coordinate part time summer employees with appropriate jobs and supervision. 18. Supervise efforts of custodial personnel and maintenance personnel jointly working special projects during school holidays and during the summer months. 19. Plan and implement a hazardous materials storage, disposal and use process. 20. Be an active member of the Superintendent's Cabinet. 21. Any and all other tasks as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools. Construction Projects- When appropriate work with the Associate Superintendent of Finance to coordinate construction projects in the district
- Interpretation of blue prints
- Understand the variety of finance issues associated with construction projects in a school district (change orders, bidding, and vendor agreements)
- Collaborate with construction superintendents to maintain deadlines and expectations
- Perform energy audits and walkthroughs within the district to identify areas of improvement.
- Work with outside contractors during new construction or remodeling to identify ways of reducing energy consumption.
- Locate and identify equipment that is directly related to energy consumption within the district. Create preventive maintenance (PM's) in school dude to ensure that equipment is operating at its most efficient levels.
- Prepare and present programs that are directed at educating both staff on day-to-day Operations Oversight.
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret general accounting periodicals, journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
