Head Softball Coach:
The Head Softball Coach will lead and organize the high school Softball program. Lead in establishing an environment in which student athletes can gain self-esteem and develop a positive self-image. Directs the promotion of sportsmanship, program equity and inclusion, a winning attitude and commitment to student academic success.
Essential Job Functions:
Direct and supervise organization of practice sessions during the regulated season; to include seasonal goals and objectives. Work cooperatively with parents, other coaches, staff, and support programs. Assists the Athletic Director in maintaining the care for athletic facilities and aid in preparation of the facilities for athletic competition. Assists Athletic Director in purchasing equipment, supplies and uniforms for the Softball team. Assists Athletic Director in game scheduling when needed. Responsible to conduct pre-season meeting with all athletes and parents, outlining schedules, student athletic contracts, and Student Athletic Handbook. Works to improve skills and knowledge of each athlete and the team as a whole. Organize team members according to competitive levels. Enforces appropriate team rules and team discipline. Follows guidelines and principles of sportsmanship. Adheres to requirements of athletic eligibility. Adheres to District Athletic Handbook, Standard Operating Procedures of league or other rules. Works harmoniously with high school Assistant Coaches, community volunteers, parents, and school personnel. Communicates effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, parents, officials, and staff. Submits rosters, equipment and uniform inventories and other reports as required. Coordinates end of year awards, communications, and events. Monitors expenditures in relation to budget and assist as in monitoring proper use, care, and return of uniforms and other assigned equipment. Supervises and/or arranges for proper supervision of student/athletes during practices, games, travel, and related activities. Coordinates and is responsible of all media communications at the high school level related to the HRVHS Softball program. Consults with Athletic Director and Administration concerning playing conditions, safety concerns, program improvements, player performance, outside complaints, and other related matters. Abilities Required:
Skills possessed will exemplify a moral character that is consistent with being a positive role model for all students. Skill and ability to teach softball skills and fundamentals. Knowledge of Softball at the high school level, including any recent rule changes. Through cooperation and communication with assistants, develop a system of play that can be effectively communicated and implemented at the high school level. Ability to communicate effectively with athletes, parents, staff and administration. Bilingual English/Spanish skills preferred. Ability to work harmoniously with others. To organize and manage students time effectively. To use problem solving strategies consistently. Adjusts to performing practices in a variety of locations. Ability to motivate students.
Education Required:
High School Diploma or equivalent. College Degree preferred
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous Softball coaching experience. Bilingual in English/Spanish helpful.
Licenses, Certifications or Bonding Required:
NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching Certification or ASEP Certifications; Concussion training, Heat Illness Prevention, Performance enhancing Drugs & Substances Training, First Aid/CPR Certification, valid driver's license.
Required Testing:
Any offer of employment made by Hood River County School District to an external candidate is contingent upon satisfactory results of: Drug screening tests for any illegal drug or substance classified in Schedules I through V under the Federal Controlled Substances Act, 21 U.S.C. 811 to 812. Fingerprint-based nation-wide background clearance. The pay range listed below is for the 2025/26 coaching season. The salary schedule is being negotiated this spring. The contract issued for 2026/27 will be no less than the range listed below, and will be based on verified prior paid coaching experience in the same sport at the same responsibility level.
