Job Description

The EDR:

Middle School Girls Basketball Assistant / 7th Grade Coach is responsible for supporting the leadership, organization, and skill development of the New Hope-Solebury Middle School Girls Basketball program, while serving as the lead coach for the 7th grade team. Working in coordination with the Middle School Head Coach and the High School Athletic Department, this position supports the District's mission by promoting academic achievement, athletic participation, sportsmanship, and the personal growth of student-athletes as they transition into middle school competitive athletics.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Serve as the lead coach for the 7th Grade Girls Basketball team, directing game strategy, practice execution, and fundamental player development.

Collaborate with the Middle School Head Coach (8th Grade Coach) to align team concepts, instructional standards, and skill progression with the high school basketball program.

Plan and conduct structured practices emphasizing fundamental skill development, basic offensive/defensive strategies, physical conditioning, and teamwork.

Assist in the supervision and safety of student-athletes during practices, home and away games, locker room time, and team transportation.

Evaluate player development and provide constructive feedback to encourage individual growth, confidence, and sportsmanship.

Promote high standards of conduct, sportsmanship, and respect among student-athletes toward teammates, opponents, officials, and school staff.

Monitor and support the academic progress, health, and well-being of student-athletes in accordance with District standards.

Assist with game-day operations, venue setup, scorebook/clock management, and equipment care.

Maintain clear, timely, and professional communication with student-athletes, parents/guardians, the Head Coach, and Athletic Department staff.

Ensure strict adherence to District policies, league regulations, safety protocols, eligibility requirements, and injury reporting procedures.

Enforce District student-athlete codes of conduct and team expectations.

Perform other program-related duties as assigned by the Head Coach or Athletic Director.

Qualifications:

Prior coaching and/or playing experience in basketball at the middle school, high school, or collegiate level preferred.

Strong working knowledge of basketball rules, player development, and teaching methodologies appropriate for adolescent student-athletes.

Demonstrated ability to build a positive, supportive team culture and mentor young student-athletes.

Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

Proven ability to collaborate effectively with the Head Coach, school administration, and parents.

Completion of required District, league, and state-mandated coaching certifications, background checks, and clearances.
