Job Description

Hybrid Texas • W2 • $60K/yr This role focuses exclusively on the coaching side — accountability, relationship-building, and helping student-athletes exceed their own expectations. There are no lesson plans to write, no tests to grade, and no content to deliver. At Texas Sports Academy, student-athletes progress through self-guided academic platforms while simultaneously building life skills and continuing their athletic development. Each week, your cohort participates in virtual 1:1 check-ins and small-group sessions led by you. You set priorities with them, maintain accountability, and identify disengagement early. The effectiveness of your sessions depends entirely on your ability to build trust and create presence — not on what appears on screen. The work breaks down into three core areas: coaching sessions that maintain student momentum, proactive outreach when performance data reveals a concern, and facilitated virtual workshops focused on mindset and life skills. You'll work remotely from anywhere in Texas, with in-person gatherings held quarterly in Austin, Dallas, Houston, or San Antonio. If you've worked with students or athletes and found the most rewarding moments came from helping someone break through their own perceived ceiling, this role is for you. What you will be doing Facilitating virtual 1:1 and small-group coaching sessions to establish priorities, hold student-athletes accountable, and sustain engagement Reviewing progress data from academic platforms to detect early signs of disengagement or performance gaps Taking direct action when a student begins to fall behind — adapting your methods, restoring momentum, and guiding recovery Facilitating structured virtual workshops centered on mindset development, life skills, and personal growth, where engagement drives outcomes Cultivating trust with every student-athlete so that accountability feels collaborative rather than punitive What you will NOT be doing Teaching academic material or delivering lessons — students advance through self-paced apps; you focus on motivation and execution Creating lesson plans, assigning grades, or managing course logistics Reacting only when students raise concerns — you monitor data and step in proactively Leading sessions where attendance is high but participation is low Key Responsibilities Maintain engagement, academic progress, and life skill development for a cohort of virtual student-athletes, ensuring they build the tools needed for success beyond academics. Candidate Requirements You have experience coaching or mentoring students or athletes, whether paid or volunteer You have facilitated group sessions for students or athletes for a minimum of 6 months You have worked in a position that required setting goals and measuring progress — and can provide evidence such as completion rates, performance gains, or comparable metrics You are proficient with virtual meeting platforms like Zoom, Google Meet, or Teams, and have experience using spreadsheets, LMS platforms, or similar tools to monitor progress You have used an AI tool such as Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot, or Perplexity at least once and can describe the use case You are located in Texas and available to attend one quarterly in-person event in Austin, Dallas, Houston, or San Antonio You are authorized to work in the US without requiring visa sponsorship Nice to have Familiarity with learning management systems such as Google Classroom, Canvas, Schoology, or related academic tracking platforms Skill in adjusting your coaching style to match individual motivation styles — recognizing when to challenge, when to ease off, and when to simply listen This position is also known as: Student Success Coach Student-Athlete Coach Mental Performance Coach Performance Coach
