Primary Purpose:
Provide instruction that will develop the skills and ability to excel in cheerleading. Facilitate skill development and appreciation for the values of community, spirit, and sportsmanship, and cultivate an increased level of self-esteem, character, and pride for their students and team. Will coordinate and manage the operations, practices, choreography, routines, and performances of the cheer team.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Preferred Bachelor's' Degree with teacher certification Must be certified or willing to be certified in CPR, first aid, AED, and cheer safety
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of both competitive and spirit-based cheerleading Knowledge of routine choreography and composition Time management, goal setting, and rehearsal coordination skills or effective practices Knowledge of and background in various performance settings for cheerleading A thorough understanding of safety and overall risk management Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Experience:
Experience as cheer coach or participant in cheerleading
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Attend practices, performances, competitions, and other group activities. Assist with try-outs. Prepare warm-up routines/practice exercise and skill development for the unit. Choreograph, arrange, and implement UIL, sideline, and game day routine(s), both as an integrated part of the Spirit Team (cheerleaders, marching band, dance team) and as an independent unit. Assist in evaluating members' abilities and design performance tasks, roles, and assignments accordingly. Work closely and effectively with the Spirit Team (cheerleaders, marching band, dance team) staff to develop a coordinated sideline performance repertoire. Instruct members in basic and advanced stretching, skill development and cheer related techniques. Assist in overseeing and coordinating the program's participation in the UIL State Contest. Ensure the highest possible level of performance for all HS cheerleaders through proper warm-up processes, effective preparation, and attention to individual members' needs and overall development. Work/fulfill a flexible, varied schedule which includes regular reporting as well as night and weekend activities at various times of the year. Assist with the setup of relevant day camps and cheerleader training during summer months to prepare for school. Assist with coordinating campus pep rallies and involvement in district and community events. Prepare routines and support as needed and /or directed Make arrangements for transportation and chaperones for all activities in a timely manner, including administrative support, parent communication, submits bus request, medical release, itinerary for activities, school insurance or an approved insurance waiver form, and work cooperatively with support. Assist with maintaining accurate inventory, budget, maintenance, and general operations of uniforms, equipment. Select and maintain uniforms and equipment in accordance with established school guidelines.
Budget and Inventory:
Assist in the management of all equipment necessary for rehearsals and performances, including maintenance and repair. Assist in the selection and acquisition of new equipment and materials, ensuring that purchases are within budget allocations. Assist with fund raising activities according to district and campus.
Student Growth and Development:
Be a positive role model for students by modeling behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible. Support the graduate profile and strategic plan of the school district. Keep informed and ensure compliance with rules and other applicable guidelines and required standards in an effort to promote student growth.
Classroom Management and Organization:
Create an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students. Consistently apply, manage, and enforce student discipline and sportsmanship in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and Cheer Constitution. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. Comply with Federal and State laws, State Board of Education rule, UIL rules, and Board policy in the assigned area. Accompany and supervise students and volunteers on out-of-town trips. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
Communication:
Under guidance of the Principal and assigned Assistant Principal, establish and maintain communication with students, parents, and staff. Establish and maintain a professional, cooperative relationship and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members. Maintain confidentiality.
Professional Growth and Development:
Participate in staff development to improve job-related skills and participate in faculty meetings, and special events as assigned. Comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Ensure that all volunteers have completed the District's background check and participation processes. Plan and assign work to volunteer(s) and oversee completion. Perform other duties as assigned.
