Boys Basketball Head Coach & Assistant Coach - Winter 2026-2027 OakTree Academy is hiring Boys Basketball Head Coaches and Assistant Coaches for the 2026-2027 Winter Season! OakTree Academy is a fully accredited, five-day private Christian school located in the Greenbrier area of Chesapeake, Virginia. We are a small school with a strong family atmosphere and a growing athletics program. OakTree Academy operates independently for its athletic programs. We are seeking passionate, dependable, and experienced basketball coaches who are committed to developing student-athletes both on and off the court.
Season Information:
The winter basketball season begins in November and runs through February . Practices are typically held approximately three times per week for 1.5-2 hours per practice , in addition to weekly games. Coaching positions are stipend-based , with payment issued at the conclusion of the season. Position Overview The Head Coach will be responsible for leading and managing the basketball program under the direction of the Athletic Director. Coaches will meet with the Athletic Director prior to the season to review program expectations, policies, scheduling, responsibilities, and additional position details. The Assistant Coach will work closely with the Head Coach and under the Athletic Director to support the overall development and success of the program.
Responsibilities:
Plan and conduct organized and productive practices Develop players' fundamental basketball skills and understanding of the game Teach proper techniques, strategies, rules, and sportsmanship Prepare athletes and teams for competitive games Evaluate player development and provide constructive feedback Motivate and encourage athletes to reach their full potential Promote teamwork, accountability, discipline, and positive character Maintain strong communication with athletes, families, coaching staff, and the Athletic Director Represent OakTree Academy and its Christian values in a positive and professional manner
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous basketball coaching and/or playing experience Strong knowledge of basketball fundamentals, strategies, and rules Experience working with middle and/or high school student-athletes preferred Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills Ability to mentor and positively influence young athletes Dependable, professional, and team-oriented Alignment with the mission and Christian values of
