OakTree Academy is hiring a Varsity Cheer Head Coach for the 2026-2027 Winter Season! OakTree Academy is a fully accredited, five-day private Christian school located in the Greenbrier area of Chesapeake, Virginia. We are a small school with a strong family atmosphere and a growing athletics program. OakTree Academy operates independently for its athletic programs. We are seeking a passionate, dependable, and experienced Varsity Cheer Head Coach who is committed to developing student-athletes, building school spirit, and creating a positive team culture both on and off the sidelines. Season Information The winter cheer season begins in October and runs through February . Practices are typically held approximately two times per week , in addition to home basketball games, pep rallies, and other required school and cheer events. This is a stipend-based coaching position , with payment issued at the conclusion of the season.
Position Overview:
The Varsity Cheer Head Coach will be responsible for leading and managing the Varsity Cheer program under the direction and discretion of OakTree Academy's Athletic Director and Cheer Director . The Head Coach will oversee practices, athlete development, game-day preparation, team communication, routines, sideline expectations, and overall organization of the Varsity Cheer program with the help of the Assistant Coach. The Head Coach is expected to be present and actively coach at all required home basketball games, school pep rallies, and other mandatory cheer events throughout the season . Additional appearances or school events may be scheduled in coordination with the Athletic Director and Cheer Director.
Responsibilities:
Plan and conduct organized and productive Varsity Cheer practices Teach proper cheerleading techniques, motions, jumps, chants, sideline cheers, and routines Develop age-appropriate routines and game-day material Prepare the team for home basketball games, pep rallies, and additional scheduled events Attend and actively coach at all required home basketball games Attend and participate in school pep rallies and other mandatory cheer events Promote proper technique, safety, and athlete development Build school spirit and encourage strong team participation Establish clear team expectations and hold athletes accountable Evaluate athlete development and provide constructive feedback Promote teamwork, discipline, confidence, sportsmanship, and positive character Maintain clear and professional communication with athletes, families, the Athletic Director, and Cheer Director Coordinate game-day responsibilities, uniforms, routines, and team preparation Represent OakTree Academy and its Christian values in a positive and professional manner
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous cheerleading coaching and/or competitive cheer experience Strong knowledge of cheer fundamentals, sideline cheer, motions, jumps, chants, and routines Experience working with middle and/or high school student-athletes preferred Knowledge of proper cheerleading safety techniques Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills Ability to confidently lead and manage a Varsity-level program Ability to mentor and positively influence young athletes Dependable, professional, energetic, and team-oriented Availability for required practices, home basketball games, pep rallies, and mandatory cheer events Alignment with the mission and Christian values of
