Position Summary Seattle Academy seeks a collaborative, student-centered Upper School Cross Country Assistant Coach to support a dynamic and inclusive program. Working closely with the Head Coach, this role helps foster a team culture that emphasizes personal growth, commitment, and joy in running while supporting competitive excellence. Seattle Academy competes in the Metro League at the 3A classification.Key Responsibilities:
Assist in planning and leading engaging, developmentally appropriate practices for a range of ability levels Support implementation of training plans that build endurance, strength, and injury prevention awareness Provide individualized encouragement and feedback to help student-athletes set and reach personal goals Help coordinate meet preparation, race-day logistics, and team supervision Build strong, positive relationships with student-athletes grounded in trust, respect, and accountability Contribute to a team culture that reflects SAAS values: inclusivity, sportsmanship, and mutual support Communicate effectively with athletes, families, and coaching staff as needed Support team traditions, community-building activities, and program spirit Ensure student safety and uphold all school and athletic department policiesQualifications:
Experience in cross country, track & field, or distance running (playing or coaching) Enthusiasm for working with high school students in a school-based setting Strong interpersonal and communication skills Commitment to equity, inclusion, and creating a welcoming team environment Ability to model positive sportsmanship and character CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain) High School diploma or GED required Completion of all WIAA certificationsPreferred Qualifications:
Previous coaching experience at the high school or middle school level Familiarity with training strategies, pacing, and race preparation Experience contributing to a positive team culture in athletics or youth programsTime Commitment:

Salary Stipend for Assistant Coach is $3,000 - $3,500. This seasonal position does not qualify for benefits.Required Education & Experience:
High School diploma or GED required. Bachelor's degree preferred. Demonstrated competence and experience in coaching. Must possess or be willing to obtain a valid First Aid/CPR card Completion of all WIAA certifications.
