Position Description:
The Department of Dance at Pomona College invites applications for a tenure-track position in Dance Studies, with a strong emphasis in dance history, at the rank of Assistant Professor, to begin July 1, 2027. The successful candidate will teach courses in dance history and cultural studies. Courses we expect the candidate to teach are Dance 138: Concert Dance on the Global Stage, Dance 135: Traditions of World Dance, and First-Year Seminar in Critical Thinking and Writing (ID1). The department will support the development of new courses in the candidate's research field. The teaching load is four courses per year. The candidate will be expected to provide leadership and vision for the study of dance history and cultural studies within the Department and to expand the Department's participation in interdisciplinary work across the Claremont Colleges. Candidates must hold a Ph. D. by the time of appointment and demonstrate specialization in one or more areas of dance history and/or cultural studies. Candidates should have college teaching experience beyond graduate assistantships, along with evidence of emerging or established scholarly research and/or professional performing experience. About the Department Pomona College, the founding member of the Claremont Colleges, is a selective liberal arts college of approximately 1,700 students, located in Claremont, California, within commuting distance of Los Angeles. The Department of Dance offers both a major (Performance or Movement Studies) and a minor, enrolling approximately 400 students per year. The Department maintains a cooperative relationship with the Scripps College Dance Program and participates actively in the intercollegiate life of the Claremont Colleges. Pomona College and the Department of Dance support equal access to higher education.
